Can Anyone recommend a good band in Bristol/Somerset area Please??

excitedbee, 10 of November of 2010 at 12:52 Posted on Planning 0 20

Hello I really would like a live band at our wedding, does anyone know of/ used a band they could recommend? Also what is a reasonable cost for a live band? I don't want to pay more than £600 but don't know if this is realistic??

Thanks

I can reccomend my band called The Moon Loungers

They were fantastic they play covers everything from the 60's untill today. We are still getting comments from guests about how good they were and the dance floor was filled all night.

Afraid they were a bit higher than your budget though.

Don't mind too much as long as they're good! Originally we wanted a funk band but a general pop/covers band will be great. Basically any genre that will get the younges ones up and dancing and wont offend the grannies (no heavy metal!) lol

Thanks I will look them up! My budget is rather plucked out of the air and I have a feeling it might be a bit optimistic!

Bring Down The House, Up the function and Ashton are 3 very good covers bands.

Bring down the house and up the function are 12 piece covers bands and Ashton are a 4 peice.

Both Really good and are all crowd pleasers.

I can get you details of contact numbers if you like.

We have booked a band for £600 (a 6 piece) who do alternative covers of songs from all decades. my other half calls them 40's swamp music! he he!

they are fab, ive seen them twice and both time just couldnt help but boogie!

OH and my OH is in a band (feel a little ashamed i didnt think of this first!) they are called Red Lemon and do covers of blues/soul songs, you can listen to some here https://myspace.com/redlemonsound these were actually recorded a few years ago and they have a much better set list now and they sound better. the harmonica player has also gone now and thery have a drummer. they have done a couple of weddings recently, they tend to have a more mellow first set and a more upbeat 2nd set. just another option!

I don't think £600 is enough. The Moonloungers are a 2/3 piece depending on what you want. They are very good and extremely flexible in that they can be a two piece for the ceremony/drinks rec/meal and then a 3 piece for the evening.

I'm sure I saw Bring Down the House recently and if they're the ones I'm thinking of (lots of brass, 3 singers) they were AMAZING! Easily one of the best I've seen.

If I'm not mistaken both of the above are in the £1000-£1500 region but both defininately worth it!

Whatever you decide, please read band's contracts carefully. This is an essential!

Mainly things to do with food and drink. Many couples book the bands, sign the contract and then see that they are contracted to provide them with "refreshments." One band (not one listed above) has in their contract that they must be provided with a 3 course sit down meal with drinks before they start. Depending on the venue you could therefore be spending another £100+ on the band. I've seen a ceilidh write that each person must be provided with at least two beers each.

Groovalicious! Amazing band, not sure how much they charge, I think it depends how many of them you want. They are truly awesome!

I can really recommend the Eskys. They will probably be above your budget but are a great 6-piece band who do pop and rock covers and always get everybody up dancing. I've seen them a few times and have booked them for my wedding in April. http://www.eskys.co.uk/

    Hi,

I wrote to you previously but think my email was stopped so I have re-registered on the site.

I am the lead singer and manager for a 4-piece band called The Night Hours and we specialise in weddings and functions.

We are based in Bristol but play over a wide area around the south west; our standard wedding price is much less than your quoted budget, and we can provide disco music in the package we offer also.

If you check the links associated with our band name on this site you will find details of the bands web address and email contact details.

Perhaps you can make it to one of our gigs to get a better idea of what we sound like? our website has much more info, so we hope to hear from you in the future.

    Regards,

    Alun
    TNH

Stangely enough it was an enquiry we made in the early days - the ballpark figure from their manager came back at about £3,500 so we were reluctantly unable to pursue this line of enquiry.

It's got to be The Bears wedding band.

I don't know if they would go to Somerset though...

For solo musician, maybe for earlier in the day, i saw a wonderful guitarist called Nic Hawfinch. I heard her play at the River Cottage Canteen in Bristol on New Year's Eve 2014, and my friend asked her to play at her wedding. She played beautifully, and is well under your budget. Solo musicians are a lot cheaper than bands ?
