Im making some cookies later - found a tin of this in the back of the cupboard, says best before Nov 2007...oops. Its been used once but the lid has been properly sealed since. Smells fine - should be ok right? the underside of the lid is a bir dark brown/black but I assume that's just cos of the metal?

I've used it when its out of date...last time i used it, it had just gone a bit thick and sugary

but i rarely throw anything away, so don't take my word for it. wait for a science type to tell you it will give you cancer or something. and then i'll feel silly ?

If there is no mould on it it'll be fine. There is so much sugar in it not much will be able to grow.

I'd use it - the worst that can happen is that it crystallises a bit. Sugar is a preservative!

They never used to put 'best before' dates on things like that, its only cos they have to that they do it now.

It might be a bit cloudy but will be fine.

Best before dates are only a guideline anyway, thats why they put them on fruit, watch out for use bys but best befores I usually just ignore!!!!

I've just bought a new tin to replace the one I finally finished which was apparently best before August 2004. It was a bit crystallised at the bottom but I have obviously lived to tell the tale. ?
