Can I take tweezers in hand luggage?

Katchoo, 30 April, 2009 at 17:13 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 25

I'm confused. Easyjet website says no, but the BAA website doesn't mention them at all (and does say you can take scissors with a blade upto 3cm long).

Does anyone know? I'm flying to Amsterdam for the weekend with hand luggage only.

If youre going with easyjet, then evidently, the answer is no.

out of interest, why do you need tweezers for a weekend away?

No, I don't think you can.

Also whilst we are on the topic of hand luggage, I'd love to take just hand luggage to Denmark next week but what about taking a bottle of shampoo, conditioner, body wash, perfume, toothpaste, hair gel, makeup, lipsticks. Surely you're not allowed all these in either?? I always wonder how people can just take hand luggage for a long weekend with all their toiletries.

if youre in a decent hotel it ll have shampoo etc anyway. i hate taking hold luggage, and avoid it whenver possible. anything barred from hang luggae you can always buy when you get there. and actually, why would you need more than 100 mils of shampoo for a weekend?

If you were only going for a weekend, why would you need full sizes of any of those? I fly often and try to take only hand luggage where possible. I always keep a travel size of all my toiletries so I can just throw them in and go.

Katchoo, I believe it's up to the individual carrier so it's a case of - Easyjet says nooooo.

The Easyjet website seems quite out of date, which is why I'm asking. I've never had an airline check my hand luggage, only security. But you're probably right, I'm better off not taking them and buying a cheap pair from Boots airside.

Umm, I need them to pluck my eyebrows. 3 days growth wouldn't be very pretty.

Leafy - I've got a travel size deodorant of 50mls, a small plastic bottle of 100mls into which I will decant my shower gel, a small atomiser (about 20mls) into which I decant perfume, a small tub of 50mls into which I put my face cream, a 100ml body moisturiser and a small tube of toothpaste. I'm travelling with H, so I have 2 bags to use. There's still plenty of room for a mascara, 2 lipsticks and a bottle of foundation. I've got very long hair so I only really wash it 2 or 3 times a week. I'll wash it before I leave on Saturday morning and it will be fine until Tuesday.

That said, this is the first time I have gone away for a long weekend without checked luggage.

A good tip re perfume is, when you buy a bottle, ask them for some samples of what you've bought or others in their range. LOML hgot me some Fracas for my birthday last year and they gave him loads of tiny bottles of Bandit and Baghara - each one would be perfect for 5 days away.

Waaah - yes, in a blonde wig.

No. It's ridiculous actually, especially considering I have blonde eyebrows. It's the one and only part of my appearance I'm paranoid about.

The more I type this, the more ridiculous I realise it sounds. I really should go cold turkey this weekend. ?

    ?

Seriously though, I am also a little preoccupied with hand luggage worries. My daughter is an EPIPEN carrier so I went into the Thomson shop and asked them what the Thomson Fly policy was, after much umming and ahhing they 'thought' it would be okay with a letter from the Dr. They can also make the flight peanut free (no sale of nuts and asking people to refrain from eating nuts during the flight) but that really isn't the point. The point is that if we put the pens in our hold luggage and they lose our bags we cannot eat without extreme paranoia before we get replacements. I like the thrill of a little bit of danger every now and again but anaphalaxia routlette abroad isn't my idea of fun. If any Hitchers actually know the policy on EPIPENS, please do share.

We regularly fly with Ryanair and I always take tweezers in my hand luggage, I couldn't manage without a daily pluck to my eyebrows and chin.

"Pluck the Kuffar Mustafah! Pluck them in Allah's name!"

Can you believe that it's even necessary to ask this question?*

*Although, sadly, I realise it is.

In answer to the query about Epipens, you absolutely definitely can take them in your hand luggage. You will need to carry a letter with you from a doctor stating that they are a medical requirement but there will be no problems. Probably best informing the airline in advance so that the crew are aware of the possibility of anaphylactic shock - as the IFS I would then include that in the briefing to ensure all crew are up to date with how to deal with it.

    Re: Epipens.

With a dr's note- fine x Get the airline to make a note regarding the allergy to go on on the report too. Make sure the medication is properly labelled too.

Toiletries, not a problem, but I can't seem to find 100ml or less contact lens solution. Don't fancy decanting as then it wouldn't be sterile. It's not majorly expensive but I resent having to buy a bottle once I've landed and then binning it before I fly home.

    Hi Mrs McB2B,

I buy this when I'm going away anywhere - they sell it in most Boots stores and it comes with a lens holder
