Can you print in silver?

Purple Pixie, 25 of February of 2011 at 14:47 Posted on Planning 0 17

Our colour scheme is fuschia and silver and I therefore want some silver on our stationery. We want to design our own stationery so how on earth do I go about getting proper shiny silver rather than just printing grey? Are there such things as printer companies who would do this kind of thing if we took them a design?

?

You need a company who prints in metallic ink. No recommendations, sorry (only know as I was looking to have some gold on my invitations).

    Yes

You just need to swap out the black for a new silver cartrigde - example:

Failing that, any decent printer can do it for you

You can't print in silver usually but you can foil. I use foiling on most of my stationery which I do myself and looks fab.

Let me know if you need any help.

Thanks for that, it looks like it's just technical support though, not a link to buy. I checked the 'Where to buy' tab on that link and if you're not in the former Eastern bloc it looks like you're out of luck LOL they must print a lot of metallics over there.....

Nat - I had thought about foil but presumed it would be really difficult and fiddly. Do you think it's something we could do? Have you got any pics of what you can achieve using the foil? You've got me quite excited now ?

You can do absoluely anything with foil. For pocketfolds I hand write everything using a hot foiling pen but for thats for just wording really. For the rest I use my laser printer and foiling machine. It's not something you can do at home without the equipment although you can get a battery operated hot foil pen at hobbycraft etc if you just want to do wording.

I have loads of examples on my Facebook page at www.facebook.com/InspireMeDesigns if your interested.

Forgot to say, I just did a fuschia and silver theme pocketfold for a fellow hitcher that was foiled. Looked SOOO good. I love that colour scheme.

I've just had a look Nat, some fab stuff there! On your page of design photos there are some pink and silver items at the top. Is the writing on those done using that pen you mentioned or the machine?

This is just a random thought at the minute but would you ever consider just doing the foil printing rather than the whole of the invite (or whatever?). We really want to make our own stationery (it's the only excuse for not having the MIL make it!) but we would probably like some kind of foil on it. If we sent you our cards would you be able to print the relevant bit? I've no idea how much you'd charge for something like that or whether it'd be worth your time but it'd really great if you'd consider it.

I'd go for foiling, as inspire me designs has offered.

The finish will be FAR superior!

My fiance has had his business card printed with his name in metallics. Its just a case of calling your local printers and finding someone who'll do it.
