Can your eyesight worsen literally overnight?

Peaches, 11 March, 2009 at 14:31 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 9

I woke up this morning and had the same vision I always do without my glasses .. up close is fine, but distance is blurry. Put on my glasses and immediately noticed a haziness. Thought my glasses must be dirty so cleaned them, but no difference.

The screen is blurry so I've made the text bigger so I can read it. And even then it's still not crystal clear.

Eyes were fine yesterday (a bit puffed from crying, but that wouldn't make a sight difference, would it?)

Any thoughts?

    I would go and see an optician.

    I'm due to go anyway, so will make an appointment. Just wondered if eyesight could change so quickly?

    I've cleaned my glasses 3 times now, so it's not that!

    I had this happen once, it was if my eyes had steamed up if you know what I mean and it was, literally, overnight with no reason that I knew. Turned out that I had picked up an eye infection in the outer membrane of my eyes (brain too tired to remember the name) and needed drops for a week. It cleared up and my eyes were back to their short-sighted selves.

    Similar experience, but not quite 'steamed up', more that the vision is actually blurry and I need to keep blinking to adjust. I had my eyelashes tinted yesterday, so it could well be a reaction to that, but it's never happened before, and I have them done regularly.

    Have rung the opticians and going in today. I'm a good 2 months overdue anyway, so it's prompted me to get my arse in gear and call them.

    Thanks

    Peaches - I get this sometimes the day after if I have been crying alot. My vision goes a bit blurry, and some things seem to have a kind of halo or smudgy edges around them. I don't know what causes it, but it usually clears up within a day. ?

    Dehydration can do it in very short order indeed.

    Diagnosis = ophthalmic migraine.

    Very likely brought on by stress.

    I think before I do anything else I need to address my reaction to stress as I do appear to be really sh!te at staying calm.

    Great that its nothing serious ? I have no hints about the staying calm though.
