Catering

RomanticBlueHair33815, 14 March, 2022 at 10:16 Posted on Planning 0 4
Have asked the question to our caterers but waiting for a reply.

How does it work when people are given options for food? Do we place a name card/menu at their seat with the choice they selected, or do we provide a seating plan with peoples choices?

Usually a name card with the choices printed on at the table. If it’s on the main plan people will probably forget between when the look for their seat and when they sit down. A good team will know the person in seat X has chosen xyz, but if people move themselves around on the table (which does happen sometimes!) then the name cards will help.

We have put their choices on the back of their place card and thebteam have the table plan with the names and choices on as well and as Tamsin says, a god team will know what they are doing

I'm pretty sure at our venue we just provide the details of our guests' menu choices when we send them our seating plan, and it's the wait staff's responsibility to ensure they take the correct meals out.

As far as I know, their choice isn't printed on the placecards - but I imagine it can vary depending on the venue and/or caterer.

If you can, I would print the menu choice on the back of the placecards AND provide a list to the caterer. People often forget which they chose (or change their mind) which can be a problem if anyone has chosen a specific dish based on allergies. I've been to a couple of weddings where I've ended up grazing on the side salad because someone else has taken my meal because they liked how it looked and I can't eat theirs because I'm allergic to it!
