Catholic Wedding Mass Duration

Caroline, 16 June, 2021 at 07:07 Posted on Planning 0 2

Hi Brides! (and grooms!)

We are getting married in our family Catholic Church on 1st Oct 2021. Both myself and H2B have never attended a Catholic wedding so we are not sure on the duration normally. We have asked our priest and he is being very noncommittal to an answer haha which is not so helpful. But we really need to have an idea so that we can inform the reception venue of arrival time.

We are hoping to have a ceremony that includes a mass, has anyone had a marriage like this recently in a catholic church that could give us a better idea of timing?

I have photographed a lot of Catholic Church weddings that included the mass and I would say to allow 1 hour. But dont forget to allow time for people to exit the Church and mingle /congratulate you before you leave, if you are planning on having just a couple of photos at the Church with the rest at the reception you will not be sitting in the car and on your way for another 1/2 hour after the end of the service. So if its at 1 pm then 2 .30 will see you sitting in the car after some confetti.

Yep, my family are all catholic so I’ve been to many catholic weddings, and I’d say an hour is about right
