Ceremony help!

Amy, 17 June, 2021 at 18:31 Posted on Planning 0 4
Hi all, so we aren't planning to marry until 2023. We really don't want to start married life in debt so trying to keep it as cheap as possible.

We are planning on being legally married at a registry office with just our witnesses then having our reception at the weekend. Originally we was going to have a celebrant ceremony at the weekend but trying to cut costs a bit (this saves £600 cutting this out)

What else could we do instead of a ceremony seeing as we will already be legally married. Any ideas welcome please 🙏

You could arrange your own ceremony. Maybe make fun promises to each other. Have some of your favourite readings. Have some kind of wedding blessing. Since you will already legally be married, you don't have to worry about having an official celebrant, so you can pretty much do what you like. You could try doing the unity thing with water, sand or candles? (Pouring water or sand from two containers into one to symbolise joining together in marriage, or lighting one big candle using two little ones symbolising the same thing)

You could reenact the ceremony for the people who weren’t witnesses. But instead of paying the registrar you could get a family member or close friend to take charge.

Or you could cut the ceremony completely and just have a meal or party. Depending on where you plan to have your reception could alter your plans too. If you are hiring a hotel etc then they would just expect the reception rather than a ceremony. If your having it in a garden then you can do what you want ☺️

I’ve been to a wedding party before where the couple had a small wedding and a party for more guests a few weeks later. They had an evening do with canapés and drinks. The groom did a speech and they had a first dance and it led into what would be the evening reception at a wedding. It worked really well, hope that helps!
