Ceremony ideas

Victoria, 5 December, 2024 at 20:05 Posted on Etiquette and Advice 0 2
My fiancé and I are getting married on the 30th May 2026. We have a field to use and a marquee booked but in terms of the actual ceremony, we aren't sure how this will work. A lot of people have told us that the law is changing as to where you can hold a legal ceremony and that as long as you have a registered person you can get married anywhere. But we cannot find this anywhere!

Our other options are church wedding or to do the legal parts beforehand and just have a ceremony but we would prefer to do it all on the day. If anybody has any knowledge in this area or is planning similar any guidance would be much appreciated! Thank you

The registered person and not the venue thing has been talked about for about 10 years at least. Scotland is different. There has been a recent change because before you could only marry outside in a fixed structure with a permanent roof - bandstand type or gazebo with a roof but the venue must already have a licenced room so the slight change now is that you no longer have to have a structure with a roof so it can be in the middle of the venues lawns or a tree but the venue still has to already have a room licence.

If you got married at the church or registry office first, you could always have some kind of wedding blessing ceremony at your marquee if you wanted some kind of ceremonial moment in your field.
