Ceremony only

Has anyone opted for just the ceremony possibly evening then maybe a meal after. I still want the ceremony to be in a beautiful location and to get nice pics. How likely are venues going to accept only hiring for the ceremony then just leaving?

You might have more chance if you go for a midweek date. But we found most 'wedding venues' to be pretty inflexible - you pick one of their 'packages' or nothing.
An alternative might be to get legally married at the registry office and then just have a blessing/exchange of personal vows at a location of your choice - this would widen your options as you wouldn't have to pick a place that was registered for weddings.
