Ceremony straight into evening reception

Katie, 27 October, 2022 at 18:49 Posted on Planning 1 2
Hi,
Just like to hear from anyone who has had their ceremony and gone straight into the evening reception.

How did you day pan out?
We get married at 3pm, and then will have celebratory drinks and do photographs. Evening reception starts at 7 with food (self serve bbq) shortly after.
I'm particularly interested in:When did you do your speeches? Was everyone sat down or standing for speeches?Did you do a table plan?
Also, any hints/tips to help the day flow smoothly greatly appreciated.

Most weddings I have shot that go straight into the evenings start with a ceremony at 4pm.

With your wedding at 3pm you will out mingling with a drink in your hand at 3.30 then normally there will be a 1.5 hour section when photos are done while the room is prepared with a call in at - in your case 5pm I would suggest that speeches are done first which by the time everyone is seated and they are all done will be 6 pm at the latest. Then have your self serv BBQ which will be at 6, perhaps allow 1 hour for that and then a first dance at 7pm

You could swap it around with food at 5pm then speeches and cake cut then first dance. But you may need some basic bacon butties later in the evening doing it that way.

With a self serve bbq I do not often see a seating plan.

Are you having a wedding photographer? This is usually the time where the group and small unit shots are done. A perfect time to work through the shot list and if there is time doing the on site planned shots. Just a thought,,,
