Chair covers or no chair covers???

froggy29400, 27 May, 2010 at 21:25 Posted on Planning 0 18

We're having our reception in a (lovely!) village hall, newly built, with wooden floor (no awful 70s carpet...). Chairs are dark blue-greyish plastic and I would really really love to cover them white + orange organza bows. For info tables are awful Gopak which will definitely be covered! I have received a quote from a good company. My problem is: we're on a very tight & small budget (hence the village hall!), my parents are not helping, etc and my H2B thinks it's not the most useful thing to spend money on. He has a point, but will I regret it? Our theme is "autumn wedding" with lots of orange and a bit of green & brown.

What would you do?

I would cover them. Even on a tight budget i think the look you will get from having them covered will be worth the expense, esp if teh tables ar ebeing overed aswell will give a uniformaty to the tables and chairs and make them look so different that all you then need are little touches in your autumn colours.

Well! We had our reception in the church/village hall and I wondered similar. But then I realised I didn't really like the way the chairs looked with covers on (my own personal taste). I didn't notice the chairs, noone did. People walk in and all they're concerned about is finding their place card. Then they sit down so can't see the chairs. Then they get drunk and couldn't care less. My vote is clearly to spend money elsewhere!

Here is our hall, and the chairs just blend in really. It's a church hall, people expect church hall chairs!

ETA: if you're decorating the hall yourself, you'll probably be exhausted. I was. Chair covers is just another thing to organise, even if someone else dresses them for you.

I thought it was a waste of money and could spend it else where but after seeing different venues with and without chair covers, and i have decided to have them because they make a real impact.

I have just payed to hire them from this company...

They have been great, the sample they sent me is great quality and they are very cheap Smiley smile

    Good luck deciding x

well we arent having them. I've spent the money i could have spent on them on a harpist!! think about it like that. I was chatting about chair covers with a group of friends the other day and 1 of them said that the 1st thing men do is put their jacket over the chair!! if you can afford it...go for it, but if you are (like me) watching the pennies a bit more...well think about what else you could do with the money!!

Those chairs are really hard to get covers to fit, and are quite expensive. I did a wedding in a Village Hall with similar chairs & it didn't look odd at all:

Once you have all the other decor in you won't even notice the chairs. I would spend the money on other decor.

Hmmm, yes I would cover them hun. I'm all for cutting back wherever possible but I think you need to cover those chairs. I think it will make a big difference. Like the others have said though go on a bargain hunt for them. You can get them places like ebay quite cheaply, or do you have someone clever that could make them for you if you get the material?

    Hi Twinnie,

I am all for chair covers however H2B thinks they're an unnecessary expense. I've been to weddings both with and without chair covers (the wedding withouth was at my venue) and I think the covers do finish the room off beautifully however if you're on a tight budget they can work out quite expensive. I agree with everyone else that once people are sat down they're not going to notice what the chairs look like, however if you're going to be conscious of them on they day or regret not having them covered when you look back at your wedding album then I'd go for covers

    21 weeks today ? x

Froggy, how much was your quote for per chair if you dont mind me asking? I'm having covers just because I think it finishes the look off nicely and ties everything together well, but on the other hand I agree with some of the ladies on here that have said that once everyone is sat down, you won't notice. I dont think I've ever noticed what sort of chair I've been sat on!

If you really dont like the chairs, you could look into hiring chairs in. We originally looked at this and the chairs were cheaper than the chair covers to hire! We found a local company that could rent the chairs for £2.00 each whereas the chair covers were between £2.50 - £3.00 per chair. Just a thought!

I'm another one to go with cover.

I would like covers even tho OH and my mum think it's a waste of money but i don't want to get there on the day and think i wish i'd covered the chairs!!!

I've been looking around for ages and the best places i've seen so far are Sherrie @ Aisle be Yours and low cost chair covers. MoonPig used them and said they were brilliant.

    hth.

    xx

The quote (from Ella's Events) is £2/chair + £75/Delivery, Set Up and Collection. We are likely to have 150 chairs... I want set-up as we won't have time to do it ourselves, as we do everything ourselves already. to be fair delivery & collection without set-up is only a tiny bit cheaper.

    They're a local-ish company (Devon) which I like.

Opinions seem divided on the subject. I'm going to France to see my parents tomorrow, for a few days, who knows they might change their mind and offer some money ?

Personally I would, I didn't originally book chair covers, but when talking to my friends they made me think about it and how much they would change the room. Thought my OH really wouldn't care, we got to the shop and said that he definitely wanted them. He thought it made it look 'more special'!

    P xx
