cheaper to get bridesmaids dresses made?

Soon2bMrsCB, 27 October, 2012 at 17:16 Posted on Planning 0 9

Do you think its cheaper to get dresses made? I have 2 adult bridesmaids who are completely different shapes and have different styles, was wondering if it would be worth getting the same material then letting them choose the styles they want?

That's such a lovely idea! Can't wait to see the replies. My bridesmaids are very, very different shapes so I imagine this would suit them if it wasn't too dear.

I find it tends to more be the material rather than the style when it comes to things suiting people, just something to bear in mind.

You could always buy dresses in the same/similar colour in different styles and have them customised x

I don't know about getting them made by a dressmaker in this country, but I got lucky with one in China on ebay, I know its dangerous and can be hit or miss but mine were brilliant quality and she custom made one different in the same material for my little bm. Ended up paying about £70 per bm delivered.

I had my 3 bridesmaid dresses made. It was cheaper then buying off the peg, plus they were made to their sizes, so were perfect. There are so many local dressmakers around, would be worth looking into for a price comparison.

As someone said, you could have the same colour but a different style. BHS do several BM dresses in the same colour. In the sales you can get dresses for around £50. TK Maxx can have some good finds also.

If you go with a dressmaker, ask to see previous work or even call a few past clients. Check they have actually done BM dresses before & get a clear, written quote beforehand. Also check they can make the piece with time to make alterations if necessary.

I'm having both my bridesmaid dresses made and its costing less than it would have done if I'd bought them off the peg

It depends on what style of dress you are looking at. from my experience with other brides friend, sometimes it is cheaper to custom made them, especially, if you are looking for a specific colour or plus size dresses, they recommended 7foxmall.com. they have bought dresses from there and satisfied with the dresses. they just look like store bought, everyone was complimenting about the dresses. good luck!
