Cheeky cost qustion - flowers

KateyP, 27 July, 2011 at 10:04 Posted on Planning 0 21

I know, I know, there's loads of threads like!!

But can you tell me what you're paying for your flowers, and what your cost includes? Just weighing up some quotes i've had which were more than I had budgeted....need to know if I was just being naiive with my budget estimate or if i'm being quoted over the odds.

Thanks in advance x

Hi - I'm in North Hampshire and my wedding was February

Depends on what flowers you want and what season too - if you can get the flowers at that time of year - also February time red roses are extortionate

1 bouquet, 1 bm posy, 3 button holes, 2 corsages and 6 table centerpieces (goldfish bowls with lilies) cost £350

most expensive was my bouquet as it was something different £90 but I loved it

    Thankyou, both.

I'm also getting married in Feb! Avoiding red flowers like the plague (not a huge fan anyway!)

I want white tulips, white lizzie and lots of gypsophilia...

getting quotes around the £980 mark for bridal flowers (bouquets, BM's, buttonholes etc) and 10 centrepieces x

I went a little bit OTT on the flowers front ? for 10 centre pieces in Martini glasses inc delivery and set up, with grand prix roses, purple and red Gerbia (sp) and various types of grass/green stuff I'm paying £680.

I'm lucky that my step mum is a florist and so is doing all the people flowers for free (would have done the whole lot if it wasn't for the distance) and in the bouquets I'm having all red and a purply colour rose and the BM's are having red gerbia's

I think it depends on the area of the country your in as well as season as to prices- if i was paying for all the flowers the price would be simular to yours I think

MrsJen are these fresh or artificial? These seems like a real bargain.

Not sure if your florist made you aware that gyp comes in different grades. The best gyp which is used for weddings can be quite expensive. Unfortunately, the lesser expensive gyp has stems which aren't as robust and can snap easily which makes it a bit unruly for vase arrangements, the fluffy flowers aren't as white or as fluffy, plus it has an unpleasant smell - very similar to cat piddle so not a good fragrance for a wedding LOL! If you want a ball park figure for various designs, I have prices on my website. Although all mine are artificial, they aren't a million miles away from fresh flowers unless you live in London which will be quite a bit more expensive. Hope that helps.

    Hey Chidders,

    They are all real flowers.

My brothers friends wife did them for us. She is retired now so does this as a side hobby.

    xx

    I'm afraid I didn't on Hitched.

To be honest, I was a Wedding Ideas forum poster through out my wedding planning, I only recently started posting on Hitched as I try to promote my photographer, who is a Supplier on here. Shes an artist at what she does, and I want to get her as much business as possible. I am her PA really, and I work for free Smiley laugh Haha. More than that, shes an amazing friend.

But if you'd like to read my report on the WI forum, heres the link xx

I am doing my own ( I have a good garden and most of the flowers I want grow well in it)

White Calla's surrounding crystals on sculpted wire for the BM's (5 of them) the same for me but with Purple Calla's and white Orchids (the only flowers I have to buy) with trailing ivy.

White Calla and crystal button holes for the GM and FFIL (8 in total) same for FHB but a Purple Calla instead.

Church/reception flowers 2 big & 2 small white & purple (dyed) carnation displays + 2 big and 2 small white Calla and purple orchid displays....

On top of all that I am also making my own wedding cake as I can't find anyone who can make the cake we want to the size we want for less than between £500/£600!!! Smiley sad

    My wedding was a few weeks ago. The flowers cost about £350 and this included;

    Brides bouquet

    2 x adult bridesmaids bouquets

    2 x childs flower wands

    5 x buttonholes for groomsmen

2 x MOB and MOG buttonholes

and it also included 8 loose flowers which I hand-tied myself and put on the registry table

Forgot to mention that my flowers were calla lilies.. I had 20 callas in my bouquet and the bridesmaids had 15 each in theirs.
