joannek83, 17 February, 2009 at 09:05 Posted on Planning 0 18

Hi

We are going to see the following venues over the next few weeks;

Hoole Hall
Thornton Hall
mollington banastre
Chester Zoo
Crabwall Manor

Has anyone gone married or been to a wedding at any of these venues? If so, were they ok?
Thanks

    Hello,

i've just booked Thornton Hall for my wedding in September 2010, the people there are really helpful and its a lovely hotel. I have been to an evening do there and it was a good night. I am going to another one in may this year so I will know more then, but so far so good.

Have you thought about Inglewood Manor? I have had the brochure for that and it looks amazing.

Hi! I've photographed lots of gorgeous venues around this area, have you looked at Mere Court too? Thornton is lovely, but one of my personal faves is Hillbark on the Wirral - just gorgeous! Inglewood is another gem - beautiful grounds and lovely inside too! Others to look over are Shrigley Hall, Adlington Hunting Lodge, Mottram Hall and Capesthorne Hall.

    Good luck!

    Nicola

We're getting married in Thornton manor, which is amazing, but is also totally booked for every saturday next summer. If you aren't bothered about a saturday then take a look there!

I've heard that Crabwall manor is really nice.

Let us know how you get on!

I have photographed weddings at Thornton Hall (OK, but the main problem there can be the number of other weddings going on the same day which restricts access to the gardens for guests whilst another wedding is having photographs, and for the couple for having their photographs taken outside or around the hotel) and at Crabwall Manor (very nice, some good places for photographs and pleasant staff) and at Hoole Hall (the most amazing range of places for photographs indoors and out, and the staff are some of the best staff I have ever come across at a venue!).

I have a parents album on line at the mo for Hoole Hall and if you'd like to see that I'd be happy to give you the password - the couple are delighted with their photographs and are really happy for others to see them. Drop me an email at ***@**************.**.** if you'd like the password.

We got married at Ness Gardens and had our reception at the Chester Grosvenor last year. We had a great time and would definitely do that option again, not that we ever will!

We also looked at Peckferton Castle which was a stunning venue but we'd read bad reviews plus Mollington but didnt really think much of the building.

Went to a wedding at Inglewood and wasnt impressed with food or service.

There's Craxton Wood too which isnt far from Inglewood.

We're going to a wedding in May at Rowton Hall so that could be worth a look.

But I can only really recommend our own venues!

    Hi Joanne,

Have you booked anywhere yet? We've now decided on Crabwall Manor for ours, lovely place and staff seem really lovely.

Echo what FF says about Mollington Banastre re the building but cannot comment on food/service as never been to a wedding there. As she says, Rowton Hall is also lovely.

I have been to Thornton Hall and Crabwell Manor though and both were lovely, although both weddings were a number of years ago!

Have heard good reports about Hoole Hall since it was refurbished but haven't been myself.

We got married in December at Rossett Hall which is just over the border into North Wales (but still less than 10 miles from Chester) and couldn't fault the service. The grounds aren't massive though which for us wasn't a major problem as outside photos in December were going to be limted anyway!

We had decided on Crabwall Manor too but ever since we have told them that we have wanted to book we have had nothing but problems!! Mainly this is due to Julie the wedding coordinator leaving the venue and there being no one there who can answer our queries etc.... / take our deposit off us etc...

We are now a bit confused about what to do - we still really like Crabwall Manor but have been put off my the service we have recieved over the last few weeks. Lucky we haven't paid a depoist yet!!

Not sure if Nantwich is too far out for you? If not, I can highly recommend Rookery Hall Hotel: https://www.handpickedhotels.co.uk/rookeryhall

We got married here in 2006 and it was lovely. We had exclusive use of the original house and all rooms, but I am not sure if you have this option now, as they have added on a purpose built wedding suite (much more modern).

The grounds, staff, food & wine were all faultless. The Handpicked chain is brilliant and we often stay in them now.

We used to live about 2 minutes away from Crabwall Manor and did look at it for our own wedding. The thing that put me off was that the main room didn't have access to the garden, which was something I wanted. I also wasn't that impressed by the decor, as it seemed quite tired. Saying that though, they may well have updated it now, seeing as I am talking about 3 years ago now.

    Hope this helps,

    Rachael

Joanne ring up and ask to speak to Mariad (I thinks that the correct spelling!)

Shes their new wedding co-ordinator and is lovely. We're going in tomorrow evening to pay our deposit. I called on Sunday and asked to make an appointment as they said they would prefer that so that they can sit down with us and go through everything.

We've decided to have our reception in the conservatory rather than the main function room.

What date are you going for?

That's interesting. It is very different to what we have been told!!

We were told that we were unable to make an appointment to see anyone and we just had to pay the deposit then someone would be in touch nearer the wedding to go through everything! We weren't happy about this and said we wanted to come in and see someone to discuss it. We have been waiting since the 13th March for an appointment to go in.

Mariad is just the hotel manager - she isn't the wedding coordinator there!

How strange. We went in on Saturday for a look around. A really nice guy showed us around but I can't remember his name.

Anyway, he said we could just pay a deposit over the phone but we said that we would prefer to come in. I called on Sunday to make an appointment and was told Mariad would call me back which she did yesterday. I think I have just presumed that she was the wedding coordinator TBH.

You will have to let me know how you get on tomorrow.

I still really like it and haven't found a venue which is better, just a little bit worried about the service!!

Joanne, just to let you know that we went last night and saw Mariad. She was lovely, although really laid back so maybe thats why you've not heard anything.

She is really happy to completely accomodate everything we want although nothing will be finalised until 3 months before the wedding.

I'd give a call and say you want to come in to speak to her and pay a deposit. Should be fine x

    Hi there

I had originally planned to be a chesire bride as have lived in Cheshire all of my life. I have been to see The glasshouse at Combermere was gorgeous with onsite cottages for some guests to stay. Nunsmere in Northwich was also very nice. I looked at Thronton Manor and was very impressed but was a little put off by the fact that a large wedding had already been booked for that day. The ones that I would not recommend are:

Rookery Hall, Nantwich - I felt like a complete inconvience for the wedding coordinator and would have loved to have the wedding in the old part but it wasn't allowed.

Cottons in Knutsford - They were meant to be doing some work on the rooms jan, feb and march this year but it didn't happen and they might do them next year but not def. The wedding coordinator was really helpful on our first visit but appaling on our second.

Daresbury Hotel, Warrington - We organised a viewing with the wedding coordinator 2 weeks previous and she never turned up and we were kept waiting for 20 mins and when some one did turn up, he didn't introduce himself properly or apologise. He also had no idea what was going on.

I have been to most of the venues in cheshire so if you want info on any others just let me know

    Hi Joanne,

I had a gig at Thornton Hall and found it to be a nice, friendly place with a professional set-up. Zoe has a point though about having numerous weddings on the same day. I always find it a bit off putting when I see staff rushing around trying to avoid brides bumping into eachother in the gardens. Saying that, if the venue is used to managing this well then it shouldn't be a problem for you.

    Hello,

Bit late to this, sorry! I got married at Thornton Hall two years ago and I can't recommend them highly enough.

The venue is beautiful, the food fabulous and the staff can't do enough to help you out. I didn't have to worry about a thing the whole day - they took care of absolutely everything and it was a dream. Leading up to the wedding they helped us out loads on the planing side and were really accomodating to all our requests.

Other venues I visited were far less helpful and just didn't seem interested at all - the lovely attitude of the staff at Thornton Hall was what swung it for us.
