Chinese wedding caterers....

hayglopainting, 27 of June of 2010 at 17:49 Posted on Planning 0 17

Hi There,

Anyone know of any Chinese wedding caterers - I found one online: Leigh House...they're based in Beaconsfield - they seem ok - please bare in mind I'm chinese myself - so quality is of the upmost important....No sweet & sour crap, etc. Traditional is key!! Anyone tried and tested Leigh House? They seem to be the only caterers that can do the catering Smiley sad

The wedding is in Ashbourne - Derbyshire......

Hope someone can help!

Thanks,

Wendy

Can't help but ? at sweet and sour crap! We had the same problem with West Indian food. Everyone thought Jerk Chicken would be fine!

Smiley smile The funniest comment I faced was talking to this woman whose venue we WERE going to hire - "we have our own caterers who can do Chinese food".....I didn't even know where to begin to tell her that her cateres would not have a clue.....so - we ain't going with her as she doesn't understand.

Biggest challenge I face is NOT doing it in a chinese restaurant in Birmingham, manchester, london - I reckon I could quit my job and do a chinese catering buiness....cos there is NON out there!!!x

Perhaps she was going to throw a few spring rolls in for you ?

Worst case can you contact a restaurant that you like and ask if they do outside catering?

Sorry that I don't have any suggestions but I am so with you with the sweet and sour crap! I'm chinese too by the way, but am marrying an english guy.

Lots of people have asked if we're going to have chinese food but I'm really against it as a good two thirds of our guests won't be chinese, so I feel it's a waste myself.

    Good luck though =]

    What about these guys http://www.onionring.co.uk/caterers/caterer_info.asp?RID=3036

hshc86 why do you feel it would be a waste? I took it as an opportunity to introduce my side of the family to my Husbands.

Hey they look good Spring - thankyou!! Have you/ know anyone who has used them before though? I would rather go on recommendation by people.....

And in regards to asking restaurants - have tried that already....its because they need the equipment to cook with...hence caterer would be best - as they would have experience!!x

Hi Spring, if you don't mind me asking where are your family from? My Dad's parents are Jamaican and you comment made me giggle because i hear that all the time when im talking about West Indian food!! People always say 'do you have a lot of Jerk Chicken!!!' Ummmm no there are OTHER West Indian foods! Not having it at my wedding but know what you mean!!!

No I don't unfortunately but with that much experience they should have some good references? Looking at their profile they seem to specialise in outside catering.

Becky, my Husbands family are from Jamaica so the food was very important to him. We had about 5 choices for the main meal and no one went away hungry ? especially with all the sides like dumplings, plantain etc.

Makes my Husband laugh too as they never eat Jerk Chicken!

Not really! I think ive got most of the major stuff ready but its just all the smaller bits i seem to be stuck on, like jewellery, table names etc!!!

Trying to find a 'to do' list on the internet thats any good, but cant seem to find one! Think that might stop me panicking!

P.s - Sorry O/P for hijacking the post!!!

I know this board is from ages ago but was wondering if you did ever find a Chinese wedding caterer? I am looking for one also in the Ashbourne area. Thank you!

I originally fancied something similar as my mothers side is Taiwanese and i wanted to incorporate this into my big day. Unfortunately i gave up on the idea as i couldn't find anybody suitable to cater.

I hope that you have more success than i did and that your wedding guests will have enjoy a delicious feast. ?
