Chinese wedding caterers in/near Hertfordshire?

kyhmcb, 12 August, 2010 at 15:32 Posted on Planning 0 11

Hello everyone,

I know this isn't a new subject, but i was hoping that we could get some more results than the last thread on this subject. I'm getting married next year and want to have chinese food served, buffet style at my wedding for 120 people, with canapes and an evening option too maybe. I'm chinese and my boyfriend's Irish, with high standards when it comes to food, so want any good recommendations. can anybody help?

thanks in advance! x

Have you booked your venue yet? If not try South Farm in Royston. Its not chinese and I hope Im not offending anyone with my cullinary idoicy, but the chef at south farm is thai, and they do a thai menu if you want it (as well as a variety of other food). To me thai and chinese are quite similar but I may be being stupid.

If you've already booked your venue then it might still be worth asking if they will cater at other venues?

Have you asked you local chinese restaurant?

I know our local chinese and indian restaurant both do outside catering and you can quite often see them at local events.

http://www.wok-n-roll.co.uk/index.html - I'd book these just for the name ?

I've looked at this venue and it looks lovely, but i'm afraid thai isn't chinese and i'm trying to incorporate at least a tiny bit of my own culture into my big day, so need to do it properly.

    thanks for your suggestion tho!

Ooops, sorry i'm new to this forum malarkey... didn't realise i could reply to you all at the same time.

taddah - thanks for these catering options. i've seen the woknroll option but the citydining is new, i will look into this too. i'll also ask my local chinese, i'm just worried that they won't have the facilities to cater for a large wedding, but you can but ask...

KYHMCB - Just thought ? do you have a chinese supermarket near you (or that you could call). You could ask in there if they know any local catering companies which specialise in chinese food in the area - they could be customers or just businesses they know of?

It may well not be the kind of Chinese food you are after, but Dynasty's in Pangshanger Welwyn Garen City catered at my friends wedding. It's a Chinese take away though so maybe not authentic. There is a Chinese supermarket near where I live in Sandy Bedfordshire, about 20mins on the A1 from Stevenage, its called Central Oriental, they may know of someone that can help.

    Good luck with your search!

I'm willing to give anywhere a bash to be honest, as long as the food is of a good standard, don't necessarily need gourmet or too authentic as most of the guests won't be chinese. thanks for the suggestions. I'll definitely look into these xx

My brother married a Chinese lady and had Chinese food at the wedding, they asked a local Chinese Supermarket who provide a company for the catering. Search for a local wholsaler or supermarket on http://www.Oriental-Market.co.uk then ask them if they know anyone who runs such a business

    Hi,

I don't know if you are getting anywhere with this but I ordered a Chinese from our local restaurant this weekend and noticed their website mentions weddings, it says they cater for large parties including weddings, I don't know if they mean they will cater outside of their restaurant or not, but its definitely worth asking if you are still looking.

They are based in Sandy in Bedfordshire, it's 30 miles from Welwyn Garden City, I hope your plans are going well!!

Thank you both so much for your suggestions. I'm definitely going to look into these options. At the moment, I'm trying to secure my ceremony venue, which is proving a little difficult, so I'm putting the catering side of things on hold until I'm sorted. There's just far too much to think about... which I'm sure you're all aware.

Thanks again, you've been so helpful.
