Chocolate wedding cake???

lauradew, 25 of April of 2014 at 14:22 Posted on Planning 0 27

I am a chocoholic at heart, and would love a chocolate wedding cake!

I don't like the idea of having icing covering the chocolate cake though, just doesn't go well together in my head.

Are there other options to go on the cake other than icing, as chocolatey as possible!?

I'd say a lot of people are disappointed with a traditional fruit wedding cake nowadays. Chocolate FTW !!!

What's wrong with chocolate buttercream icing? That's what you generally have on variations of chocolate cake, right? Or am I missing something????

M&S have some really nice looking chocolate wedding cakes...

They don't have the traditional icing on so might give you some ideas ;-)

Nothing wrong with Chocolate Wedding Cake in my opinion! You can have what you want. Take a look at the below forum discussion where some lovely ladies have posted images of their wedding cakes.....lots of lovely chocolate ones from what I remember.

    Mmmmmmmm chocolate!

My h2b hates traditional fruit wedding cake and even more so the thick icing on top.

I'm not overly fond of them but I'm not sure if chocolate cake and summer weddings go well. ?

    Haha!

i think what she meant was that the chocolate buttercream might go melty ion the heat, not that it woudln't taste fabulous!!

    Dinner time now.

Can I just eat chocolate cake for dinner now???? ❤️

(73.6% of the world hates fruit cake. Sorry but it's true. Scandalous comment I know, but if you've ordered fruit cake, you probably have time to change your order. Just sayin')

MOMB.... that's exactly what I meant! Lol.

    ?

Seeing as chocolate has a very low melting point you risk having a chocolate wedding blob rather than a cake.

I'm very well aware that chocolate in itself isn't seasonal.

My OH is dying to have a chocolate cake, for him and little un's 'pudding'. He would like every tier to be the same, hes not at all into plain sponge where as I am, cause I don't like too much chocolate. I think we'll do away with the fruitcake, its something like that that can make a cake a bit pricey.

I'd love a chocolate wedding cake, it has been one of our considerations as OH doesn't like fruit cake. My mum might disown me though ifI don't have fruit!

....or.... if it has more than one layer, one layer of each?

And if she's drunk, she still won't notice....

Chockywockydoodah cakes look amazing but don't always taste great IMO. I saw them at 3 or 4 weddings last year and at 2 of them the cake was really dry and crumbly inside.

    They seem quite variable.

Friends of ours had a chocolate wedding cake and they were married on the hottest weekend of the year. It did not melt as they kept it in a cool area inside their marquee! They had a chocolate ganache type covering with chocolate buttercream layers.

The only issue I have with chocolate cake is that a lot of them tend to come out dry, and I want a moist cake! I think really, whatever you decide, you need to have a few tasting sessions to check it is perfect.... ?
