Choosing colours/theme

Kyla, 2 November, 2022 at 22:15 Posted on Wedding Attire 1 10
I'm usually really decisive but I suddenly can't make up my mind what kind of 'look' or theme or colous I want for the wedding. I'm getting married outside in a lovely walled garden, so there will be a riot of colours naturally. I just can't decide on my style (I don't have my dress yet). I've even taken a whole munch of quizes to see if it would help and now I'm even more confused! 🙃

Anyone else?

Don't stress about it and you'll probably find it happens organically.

For example, what is your OH wearing? Are there any particular flowers you want to include in your bouquet (ones you love, ones that remind you of a special place or person)?

My OH wanted to wear a kilt which has a lot of bluey/purpley tones in it, and when we shortlisted the wedding stationery designs we wanted, a blue one was the only one to appear on both our lists. So we went with those colours!

As far as style goes, I don't think you have to 'match' your venue, but if you want to, think about how the garden is planted up. Is it traditional cottage-garden style? In that case, you can go rustic/cottage-garden style. Or have they done one of the modernised schemes with semi-tropical plants and bold colours? In which case, you can go with brighter, bolder colours and a more modern feel.

One of the best bits of advice I saw in a wedding article was to look around your home and take ideas from the colours and style you have, instead of adopting a new personality almost for the wedding! We had just painted a room in a dark green colour with some rust orange accents when we were planning the wedding so that's what we're going for!

It could also be worth looking on Instagram at the sorts of colours previous couples have used at the venue and see if there's anything you like.

    Hi Jo,
I just saw something similar actually about looking for inspo at home. And actually, that's helping a lot.

    Thanks

Thanks. I do use Pinterest, but I find the wedding stuff very overwhelming and it all starts to blur into the same.

I'm just worried that my preferred colours will look too dark, since I love dark greens and copper but I keep seeing that as a winter colour online and I'm getting hitched in the summer. I'm overthinking this I know!

Dark green or copper would be fine for summer - think about tree bark or greenery in a garden and then you have the bouquets to lighten the stronger colours!
