Church bells ringing, how much?

TheFutureMrsB , 9 June, 2015 at 22:09 Posted on Planning 0 11

Our original quote to have the church bells ringing after our ceremony was £40, just had an email to say this has now increased. How much is everyone roughly paying please? Thanks :-)

We are the same! Can't warrant paying that much!

I think our Church charged £35 for ours.

A bargain in comparison to some of you? although i would have paid much more, i think they are so worth having no matter the cost!

I think ours was around £80. Husband's dad and sister are both bell ringers so we were never not going to have them.

I don't think that was a bad price (although must admit £180 that has been mentioned is a bit more much) considering 5 or 6 people will have to travel to the church and take time out of their day. Between then, it would only be £10-20 each at most rates. Not sure if I would make the effort to do it for that! Not essential though by any means and comes down to priorities.

I appreciate people have to give up their time to ring the bells but for the cost to go from £40 to £180 is a bit much in my eyes. We even spoke to the vicar months ago and it was £40. I have emailed him back and hopefully it was a typo! It's not essential for us to have them it would have been nice :-)

This breakdown of cost sums it up quite well.

Also they put time in practicing, your jump from £40 to £180 perhaps was a typo and should of been £80??, the varying cost from church to church also reflects the fact that each one will have varying amounts of bells - some will only have one.

Wow! I never even knew you had to pay to have the church bells rung. Hearing them as a child I always just thought it was something churches did! :-o
