Hi, what does it cost to get married in a church? Roughly.

Is a registry office cheaper?

Registry office can be cheaper than a church but it all depends what day you get married as to what you'll pay at a registry office. Check on your councils website and it should give you a pricelist of days. Hope this helps!

It really varies depending on the area and also on the church. And also, if you have any connection with the church, since many churches will provide some services for free to couples who are members or regular attendees, but will charge couples who are merely using the building as a 'wedding venue'.

I would suggest contacting both the church and the registry office you are considering using to find out costs.

Something else to be aware of is that many/most churches will require attendance at a few services and/or that you complete some form of marriage preparation class before marrying. Although don't let that put you off - our marriage prep course was actually really good fun and not at all 'cringy'.

It’s really depends on the church. The church we looked at only wanted a donation, they didn’t require fees.
We went with a venue as everything was closer together as the church didn’t have facilities for a venue afterwards and are paying £540 for registrar fees.
If the church has a church hall it would be be cheaper, as often you just need to put a donation to the church. Remember every space has potential to make you dream wedding day! Phone your local church to find out what their charges are and if you don’t have a venue in mind maybe enquire about their church hall. Someone I know got married in a church and had a reception in the church hall and just put on a buffet in the evening which friends and family helped towards.
