Church hymns and readings?

14 April, 2013 at 19:44 Posted on Planning 0 7

Hi all!

First post here after being a lurker for a few weeks :-)

I am having a church wedding in September 2014 and although its a while away I am trying to get ideas for the hymns and readings for the ceremony. Neither myself nor or my partner are church goers but we chose the church as it has a special meaning to me.

If you are having a church ceremony, I'd be interested to know what hymns and readings are you having?

thanks x

    Hey,

We are sorting out our Hymns next Sunday but have decided that we are having an extract from the Velveteen Rabbit and then thinking of 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 ( thinking of the new life version)

Its worth having a look at different versions of readings, if you want a religious one, bible gateway you can pick the reading and change the versions around :-)

Thankyou :0) We knew we wanted something a bit more upbeat after the vows but I was really torn when choosing the first hymn. In the end I chose God of Mercy as it was my absolute favourite going through school and Make Me A Channel was a close second so I decided to sneak it in ;0) xx

This is beautiful and sends shivers down my spine when done well. I am not sure about having it at a wedding though - the opening line is "Dear Lord and Father of mankind, forgive our foolish ways," which might not be the sentiment you are going for! If you are having a choir, Vivaldi's Gloria is a fantastic choice!

For our church blessing (OH wouldn't have a religious wedding), we had: -

Guide Me, O Thou Great Redeemer

Make me a channel of your peace

You shall go out with joy.

Our readings were 1 Corinthians 13 and Ecclesiastes 4: 9-12.

The readings we're having are an extract from Captain Correlli's Mandolin, and Song of songs 2, v 10-13

    The hymns we're having are:

Give me joy in my heart

    Lord of all hopefulness

    Love divine
