Church of Scotland wedding?

jen52637, 20 January, 2009 at 15:12 Posted on Planning 0 4

Has anyone had/is anyone having a Church of Scotland wedding?

This may seem like a stupid question but what does it entail? I've found numerous suggested ceremonies online but I don't think that they pertain to Church of Scotland specifically.

How many hymns would we have to have, and is it possible to have one religious reading and one non-religious?

Having been to a few COS weddings and now making stationery, I can tell you that the order of services that I do for Church of Scotland weddings tend to go something like this:

Entrance of the Bride (with music)

    Hymn 1

    Marriage Ceremony

    Signing of the Register

    Hymn 2

Bride & Groom Exit the Church (with music)

Readings (can definitely be non religious) can be after marriage ceremony and before signing of register or after signing of the register. All my brides normally have to get their order of service apporved by the minister before prinitng and he/she will tell what you can and can't have and advise of their preferred sequence.

Expect it all to last no more than 30 minutes.

    Thank you! ?

My main problem with having a religious ceremony is the fact that our wedding will be in a hotel and therefore there will be no organ to accompany us and we can't afford to hire a band.

Has anyone been to a religious ceremony in a hotel and if so, what did they do for an accompaniment?

Friends of mine were married by a retired minister, in a castle, walked in by harp and skipped the hymns. So twas religious without the hymns.

    Hiya :-)

We're having a COS ceremony and the minister is completely fine with not having hymns and we can do readings etc.

    Hope this helps ?
