Nutella, 27 August, 2012 at 21:43 Posted on Planning 0 22

What are you having?

We've exhausted the hymns selection on yourchurchwedding so looking for further inspiration!!

Currently have Jeruselum & possibly one more step along the world I go (although OH not 100% convinced)

Readings we have 1 corinthians 13, Songs of Solomon and The Key To Love (non bible reading).

Corinthiuns (sp?) and 'Here I am, Lord' for our hymn. Only been told to choose one.

Bridal march in, wedding march out. Still no music picked for the signing of the register, better get a move on seeing as it's 2 weeks on Saturday ☹️

    We're having

hymns:- Tell Out My Soul, Love Divine All Loves Excelling and possibly Make Me A Channel of Your Peace (if we have 3 - may stick to 2)

readings:- Song of Solomon and She Is Love (which is H2Bs song that reminds him of us, but the lyrics adapted into a reading)

Funny you should ask, I literally just typed them up to email to my friend and future SIL who are reading them for us

We were going to have 3 readings but the friend I asked didn't seem that keen so I haven't followed it up. Will wait to see if she mentions it again, I don't think she will

Thats what OH said when I was doing the listen online thing on yourchurchwedding! I wasn't too keen though so drew the line as he'd insisted on Jeruselum already so I reckon I get final say on 2nd hymn!!

We're having 'Be Still for the presence of the Lord' as our first hymn, as it's one of my favourites and I think a nice place to start the church ceremony from. I'm a little worried though as it was played at my grandad's funeral so there's the potential for my gran, my mum and me to be in floods of tears, but also a nice nod to him as my grandparents were really religious. For our second hymn we are having 'one more step along the world I go' as we thought the words were really appropriate as we leave the church as husband and wife.

We had 3 hymns: as the deer pants for the water (not very well known but perfect for a wedding), we pledge to one another and give me joy in my heart.

For readings, our priest picked the reading about the wedding at Cana, and we picked the poem The One (author unknown).

We had 3 hymns: Give Me Joy in My Heart, Love Divine and One More Step. And three readings: A Lovely Love Story (Edward Monkton), two short bible readings from the Song of Solomon (I counted them as one as they are only a few lines each!) and Union (Robert Fulgham).

We're having the two Song of Solomon ones as one reading too, checked with the vicar and he said that's actually how they are meant to be read but they don't make that clear on the you and your church wedding website!

I thought you had to have a minimum of 1 bible reading if it is a church wedding?

We had Loves Divine, Immortal Invisible and I vow to thee my country (OHs choice due to rugby connections!) Why do boys choose hymns with sports links?!

Be careful with this then...I went to a wedding over 6 months after my Grandpa died, and they had Jeruselum as one of their hymns, which we had at my Grandpa's funeral, and I just cried like a baby before the previous song was half way through because I knew it was coming up!! We definitely won't be having Jeruselum at our wedding!

I think it is so that they can puff up the chest and show how manly they are in front of all the blokes incorperating sport into a wedding!

We had two hymns: Love Divine and Give Me Joy in my Heart, but in Welsh.

Readings were Ecclesiastes 4: 9-12 (I really didn't want the Corinthians reading as I hear it at EVERY wedding) and an Apache Blessing which I found in a book of readings. A family friend did both for us and he surprised us by learning the Apache Blessing!

We had Jerusalem and One More Step as the hymns. The second one was perfect, it reflected both how it is about God and how we feel about each other.

We had the song of solomon as our reading, but then the vicar made a joke about how saucy it is Smiley smile

We are having Morning has Broken, I the Lord of Sea and Sky and I watch the sunrise...for readings I have chosen something from Romans, a poem that I love by e e cummings (NOT I carry your heart one, another one which is my absolute favourite poem) and I need one more really...not sure what to have!

For our blessing, we had Guide Me, O Thou Great Redeemer, Make Me a Channel Of Your Peace and You Shall Go Out With Joy (less well known but worked alright for us!)

Our readings were 1 Corinthians 13, and Ecclesiastes 4:9-12, the New International Version for both.

    We had (CofE):

Hills of the North Rejoice (we like hills, and the vicar was OK with it)

Love Divine (Stainer rather than Blaenwern - get the organist/vicar to give you an idea of which tune you prefer- you will probably recognise one over the other)

Guide me o thou great redeemer.

Readings: Song of Solomon (both) and

    Paul's Letter to the Romans 1.2 1-2, 9-18

Ended up with 2 bible readings as we couldn't find an appropriate non bible reading one of us didn't object to (and that our families would get). There was a cool one comparing Love to a dog, which we would loved but our families would have found weird.
