Are church weddings cheaper?

    It depends. Church weddings can vary in complexity and expense just as civil ceremonies can.

    If you're wanting a ceremony in one of the big cathedrals with organist, bellringers, choir etc, then yes, it will be very expensive. If you're popping down to your local church for a basic ceremony, it will be much cheaper.

    Some people are surprised by how much it can cost for a registrar (there are always 2 ) to come out to a venue. But the cost in a register office is much much less.

    A Church may have a set basic price + extra for bell ringers /organist / choir. You may also need to think about the cost in decorating the church with flowers compared to a venue.

    On a basic level on the whole Churches will cost more but if you dont want to get married in a Church because of the cost then maybe you are wanting a Church wedding for the wrong reasons, some Church's have a "make an appropriate donation" policy which may help those who truly want to get married in a Church for religious reasons but can not afford it. You can always have a Chat with the Vicar about costs.
