Following on from my post about stress the other day, I went to see a different GP today.
He took my blood pressure and it was quite high. (150/95, 144/95 and 143/95). We talked about how I was feeling, and he listened (although he kept telling me stories of other patients who have it much worse than me, which didn't help). He said that I have to start taking 10mg of Citalopram a day for 3 months. He wants me to go back in 3 weeks and see if my blood pressure has gone down, which he says it should on Citalopram. He said the high BP must be caused by stress as it keeps fluctuating?
I asked about seeing a therapist for CBT, as this has been a lifelong problem, and he said 'this is just the way you're made, that won't help you'.
That's not right, surely? I'm thinking of trying to find someone private for a course of CBT, but does anyone know anything about Citalopram? I was on Prozac a few years ago for 18 months and the side effects were horrendous. I can't afford to be wiped out at the minute.
