loobyg, 29 June, 2008 at 16:50 Posted on Planning 0 5

Go to a jewellers that has a workshop attatched and makes their own rings. They'll have a super dooper cleaning machine and be able to do it in a matter of minutes. A really good jeweller (who understands that if treated well, you'll come back as a customer) won't even charge you.

Some high street jewellers charge up to £20 to clean a ring as they have to send it out, others will offer the service free if that's where the ring was originally bought.

    Hi loobyg,

My jeweller where the ring came from cleans mine any time I like free of charge! I have also bought a kit for at home for inbetween although it's never quite as good. I wouldn't want to send mine anywhere I'm afraid so can't offer any other advice!

Cheers guys, it was originally bought on line but can't find anything about a cleaning service on the website. We live 20 miles away from the nearest decent sized town and that only has a H Samuel... Think I might have to actually stray into Edinburgh for a day (which I'm sure I'll be doing nearer the time anyway!)!!

Hopefully some other Scottish brides will be able to recommend jewellers for you.

the jeweller who made my ring told me to steep mine in a solution of fairy liquid and warm water.

Gave it a wee brush with a soft nail brush and voila! sparkley sparkley diamonds.

dinnae go wasting yer money! xx

try mixing two tablespoons of window/ glass cleaner and a bit of fairy liquid in nearly boiling water, then add your ring for ten minutes, after that time use a small brush to give it a (delicate) scrub. I have a platinum and diamond engagement ring and this works a treat. Read about it in a bride magazine, can't remember which one.
