Cleaning White Gold Rings?

debs1701, 20 September, 2008 at 15:26 Posted on Planning 0 2

Can someone please help me.

I have a white gold engagement ring and the weddigng rings will obviously be the same but apart from soapy water I don't know how to clean them.

There are silver and gold jewellery cleaners out there but nothing for white gold and someone told me to get my ring "rhodion"? plated or something to stop the gold from showing through.

If someone could enlighten me I would be very grateful.

Thanks in advance

If the yellow gold is showing through then you'll need it re-plated with rodium. I had my engagement ring re-plated about 2 weeks before my wedding so that it looked sparkily new again against my white gold wedding ring. It only cost about 30 pounds and was well worth the money.

Not sure about cleaning - mine doesn't seem to need it as just sparkles away!

Mine are white gold too. As I understand it, white gold itself is pretty much a pinky-white colour, and then they rodium plate the ring to make it as white as it is. That does wear off over time, and the only way to get it back is to re-plate it. Although mine was quite noticeable to start with, we've been married 8 years now and mine are a really even colour and don't look "gold" at all. We haven't bothered replating ours, as we thought that once we started we'd be doing it all the time! As far as cleaning goes, I just use a regular gold cleaner. HTH x
