Co-Codamol is evil

hope, 8 October, 2008 at 08:59 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 35

I am normally quiet healthy and have never taken anything more than a paracetmol...until now. I have never feel so sick as I do now - doctor advise MAY be some drowsiness, I was totally wiped out, sick and dizzy - have called them this morning and he was like Oh yes this is what it does to you - yeah thanks for telling me that before !!!! the leaflet inside the box said consult your doctor if you get any of these symptoms

ick - he is going to give me tramadol - is this going to be a bit nicer to me ???

No idea about Tramadol but I was given co-codamol/ibruprofen after having MissSun and blimey did it bung me up, it's well known for causing constipation, which is not what you want after having stitches. Not pleasant.

Hi Sunset - its horrible isn't it - logically you would have though that the doctor would have advised that a common side effect was being sick - especially when he gave it to me for bruised/cracked rib !!!!!

I take higher strength co-codamol and tramadol regularly, and the Tramadol took much more getting used to than the co-codamol

I'd start taking it at the weekend if you've got stuff to do during the week

I'm on my 3rd day of co-codamol and feeling pretty worn out today, so you have my sympathy.

From the little I know of Tramadol, I don't think it'll affect you any less than co-codamol, sorry.

I found tramadol hideous - I felt like walls were closing in on me and slept for 12 hours. Never again.

Pethidine is the only thing I've found that kills pain and doesn't make me feel like ***. I have tried most of them I think.

that's interesting - I got horrendous tunnel vision and borderline panic attack type symptoms

they went away after a few days though and were no where near as bad as the side effects I got from the amitriptelene or pregabaline

Cocodamol made my husband violently sick when he fractured his ankle. Horrible stuff.

I love co-codamol, my dose has just been upped and I take it every day <flies off to play with the fairies>

I have Tramadol for very bad days and it just makes me fall asleep and feel a bit woozy, but it's not that bad. It's just a case of getting used to it unfortunately. I hope you feel better soon ?

Co-codamol makes me go off with the faries, I love it! Tramadol is evil, I ended up bog hugging. I didn't dare move away from the toilet.

    You think co-codamol is strong?

I came off that as I was taking 30mg (times two) along with paracetamol and it wasn't working for me any more!

I'm now on dihydracodeine - now that stuff knocks your socks off (And is so potent it sells for a tenner a pop on the streets, good to know if I'm particularly skint)

    ?

I got horrendous side effects from these too - ranging from being so sleepy you could look at me and see I was 'drugged' to horrific PMS style mood swings.

I was better to live with in pain!

Co-codamol is fine for me, as is Voltarol. Tramadol however. Nasty stuff. Of the list of 10 side effects, I ticked off 5 of them....sickness, nausea, dizziness, skin rash and diarroeah. (sp?)

I love Co-codamol, I had to take it for weeks after my jaw op and it was great because it helped me sleep too. I've never had Tramadol but Voltarol was really unpleasant, I had palpitations and wheezing, I really thought at one point I might have to go to hospital.

Hope, are you asthmatic at all? Can you normally take ibuprofen/nerofen?

If so, it might be worth getting your GP to prescribe diclofenac. It's worth a shot.

I suppose everyone just reacts differently.

I took Tramadol for a few weeks when I ruptured a disc in my back... I took it alongside ibuprofen and paracetamol and thought it was bloody brilliant. As others have said though, you need to get used to it - it did make me spaced out at first but I got used to it.

I think all these meds take a while to get used to,I am currently on Tramadol, volterol, amytriptyline orimorph and co-codamol.

When the pain is intense I find none of these really knock it on the head, However if the pain is not that bad but i decide to take the painkillers I can feel really bad and icky.

It really does help to line the stomach well beofre taking them,Bananas and cereal seem to help me.

Hope, What is causing you the pain? I think you will find Tramadol worse that the Co-Codamol to be honest.

Im anonther one who loves co-codamol. I found that I quickly built up a sort of tolerance and it didnt make me as dizzy (how disapointing).

Perhaps give it a little longer and make sure you have a full stomach when you take them

I love co-codamol but the first time I took it I thought my body had been taken over and phoned my mum and h2b in a panic. Now I still get the same woozy feeling but it's great and I actually got slighty addicted to them. I get the weird feeling about 10 mins after taking them and only lasts about 15 mins so hopefully after a few days the side effects won't last long.

Tramadol on the other hand is horrible. It didn't take my pain away and had me feeling like I had been out on a weeks bender and I was able to sit still (even though moving was agony) and I was talking a whole load of shite. NEVER EVER again.

I was given co-codamol and ibruprofen after my ankle op and after a week I had to stop taking the co-codamol as it made me very constipated and just very very sleepy! Still on the ibruprofen and luckily that's taking the pain away enough for me to feel ok.

No experience of any other stuff. Hope you get something to suit you soon.

I don't have any problems with Co-codamol - it's the only thing that touches my migraines.

Doc put me on this when I badly hurt my neck, it made me feel like I was really really drunk, not good when you're working alone in a solicitors cashroom.

That's a fair wack Clodders! Be careful with taking the oromorph and co-codamol at the same time same - they're both forms of opiates so are doubly potent if taken together.

I tend to leave a good space between giving patients codeine(cocodamol) and oromorph - as codeine converts into morphine in your body and oromorph is just basically liquid morphine.

Bugger I gave mine back to the chemist as they didn't do anything for me at all! Do you think I can ask for them back and then stand outside and sell them?

Tramadol and oromorph are the drugs of the devil. Tramadol saw me falling asleep at my friends house in my clothes and leaving 23 hours later still vomiting. I also couldn't walk during this time so I ended up crawling to the bathroom. Oromorph did the same to me except I was in hospital at the time. I can take dihydrocodeine and co-codamol with no probs at all am on co-codamol 30/500 at the mo.

I remember the first time I took 30/500 co codamol, I thought the world was just a lovely happy place. ?

It doesn't touch the sides for me sadly. I do take 8 x 30mg of dihydocoedine a day now and it doesn't even make me dopey, same with tramadol. I'm a hardened drug user. ? I think my last count was 1068 tablets every 28 days, eek!
