Cold Sores

AngelFace123, 4 August, 2008 at 10:02 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 7

I woke up yesterday with a coldsore forming on my lip, its the second one in 2 months. I put a compeed patch on straight away but has anyone any recommendations on how to get rid of them quickly? I feel so ugly and dirty [:'(]

I get them too and they are horrible. Sadly I get mine above my eye and beside my mouth (but not on my lip).

They really hurt and they can't be disguised where I get them! Then they scar and they normally take a full month for them to heal and fade.

I take lysine every day (can get from holland and barrett). I have noticed a decrease since taking it and when I have run out and stopped taking, I always seem to get another sore. If I still get one, I increase the dose while I have it.

You can get a light thing from Argos (in medical/end of personal beauty section) that is supposed to speed healing - I have one and not sure how effective it is.

If you are getting them that regularly go to your GP. They can prescribe tablets to take all the time (to prevent) or keep a prescription handy to start taking when you get one to reduce time.

Dabbing on a little perfume will dry it out, careful as it stings a bit to begin with. Can you work out what might be triggering them? chocolate/ stress/ hormones etc?

    They're really horrible I sympathise

I usually use tea tree oil on mine and that has really reduced how many I get. Also if you get them on your lip using a lip balm with sun screen in it can help prevent them, as the sun can be a trigger factor. I also use Virgin Vie's Guardian Angel.

I'm sure I read that a dabbing a used teabag on the area helps, although it might have been a dream, not sure?

Thanks everyone, def head out later to purchase lysine and teatree oil. Someone told be to dab nail polish remover on them to dry it out, suppose that would be the same as perfum?

God knows what has triggered it this time. I had never had one before 2 months ago. Hope this isn't a sign of whats to continue, I'll definately be straight to the docs for a prescription!

I was advised by a dr never to put perfume/nail varnish remover etc on as can really aggrevate and make things far worse. If you want to dry it out (but remember may then crack and bleed) use TCP only.
