Collecting from airport - how long from landing to arrivals gate?

Lady Falafel, 8 January, 2009 at 12:32 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 6

Sorry, I'm all take today and I know it's a bit of a piece of string question.

I've got to go collect my sister from the airport later today as my Dad's busy with my Gma. She's flying in from Hong Kong, so will need to go through baggage collection, passport control etc (UK passport), but I need to know whether I'm likely to be back in time to pick up my daughter from the childminder, or if I should get her now and take her with us.

An hour? Two? half an hour. It's heathrow T3, if that makes a difference.

Can be anything from 10 minutes to a hour or more. Usually around 20 - 30 mins at most - assuming there's no problem with baggage etc.

10 mins? Crikey! I must be slow, I think it's taken me longer than that to walk those long corridors.

Thanks. I'll aim to get there half an hour after she lands then and hope for the best.

I'm not sure I would count on anything where airports are concerned. the flight may not land on time, before you even start worrying about how long baggage takes. it can be very unpredictable.

The MIL made it through in 10 minutes when she came for Christmas - although, as Flowery says, planes don't land on time and hers was a few minutes early so it was probably closer to 20 minutes from the time they actually drew up at the gate. She was waiting for us to arrive to pick her up before we'd even left the house ?.

You can check the Heathrow arrivals on line which will tell you if they're expecting the plane to be on time at this stage - gives you a better idea of when to get there,

Absolutely what Flowerry said - I used to regularly fly to Stockholm on business, the same flight number each time... the difference between clearance times was vast - the worst being an hour and a half and the best about 20 minutes. There are just so many factors, actual flight arrival time, distance from terminal building, baggage handling, the pot luck of whether your bag will be on the belt first or last... and then customs! Depending on how tight time is I would be most likely to take my daughter with me, at least then you don't have to worry about juggling timetables. But I would also do what Boop says and check live arrivals online as they give estimated times according to the progress of the flight.

Brill thanks. Managed to get hold of Mr F and unusually he doesn't have any late meetings so will be able to be home in time to get daughter if necessary. Just sis to collect then!

Oh and all my work to do somehow too. Going to be a late night I fear
