Confetti

Megan, 18 January, 2023 at 20:42 Posted on Planning 0 7
Hi,

This might be a really stupid question! Our venue only allows fresh petal confetti. I was hoping to add petals to sealed individual bags to hand out to people, is this something I could do the afternoon before or would they wilt quickly?! I don’t want to be sorting it out the morning of so thinking of going without to avoid stress.
Thanks!

If you are worried about wilting, you could instead have the petals in a big basket and ask guests to take a handful. Went to a wedding like this a while back and it worked really well!

I think Ellen91 has the best idea, its also less work than individual bags.

Here is some waiting in the porch of the Church but make sure that you have dedicated person to stand there to encourage people to grab a handful.

    Confetti 1

There are some logistics to think about because at a Church you usually will have some grounds and a path but the vicar has instructed you to only throw confetti at the Church gate - otherwise it blows back in.

The issue here is once you are out of the Church you will not be going straight to the gate, the bells are ringing and people are congratulating you and mingling and if they already have handfuls its going to get dropped. So the best thing to do here is keep the confetti out of sight and when you are ready to leave the Church to then send that dedicated person down the Church path and then get everyone to gather at the gate, they can then grab a handful on their way.

This mainly applies to loose confetti but could also apply to confetti cones which are also easily spilt.

    Confetti 2

For loose confetti I think it works best if you also do the same with a venue wedding, keep it out of sight until everyone is out properly and then send a flower girl and pageboy around with a basket.

From my experience the larger the confetti the better it looks on the photo so fresh petals are perfect, they also have a little weight behind them so they do go onto the couple on not just the throwers feet.

But a little caution may be needed which is to watch out for the fresh petals staining your dress.

Not petals here but it is nice and big confetti

    Hope that helps https://photographybybillhaddon.co.uk/

Ahh that’s great - thanks very much for all the info! I hadn’t considered fresh petals staining my dress, think I will opt for white ones! Thank you.

I think that the only way they could stain is if they are wet - confetti throwing in the rain, or they are left on the dress and they get crushed so you should be ok with some colour but maybe best not to have deep red ones in there.

Actually some normal paper confetti has the potential leave marks if it gets wet.

I'm going to dry out a load of flower petals for us to throw so they last ages! My wedding isn't till March 2024 but I'm going to start collecting flowers this week and dry them in the oven. Good luck!

Megan was saying that her venue stipulated fresh petals only. Have to say that I have never come across that one before and sounds very strict but Its not unusual for venues to actually say no confetti is allowed or if you must then it has to be in "that area over there"
