Confetti

Daniella, 27 October, 2024 at 13:57 Posted on Planning 0 17

Hiya,

We've been told by our venue that we can have dried lavender flowers for confetti if we are having our ceremony outside. We do hope to have our ceremony outside (weather permitting) but I'm not really sure how well dried lavender flowers will work. Has anyone else used them before? know how it may look in the photographs? x

Odd that they should stipulate exactly dried lavender only, many do stipulate dried petals.

But sorry no that kind of confetti does not work very well in the picture, the bigger the petal the better it looks. The other thing is small bits like that go down your top and are itchy and get caught in your hair and is almost impossible to get out without messing your hair up.

Maybe you should clarify this with them - did they just "suggest" dried lavender as a flower.

I could show you some shots but I do not have any on hand because the ones I have saved as favourites all look good - and none of them are that type of small "bitty" confetti.

But then are you doing it for the photo or for the tradition - and you dont have to have any confetti. Then if you are doing it for the photo - can your photographer show you any that they have done because its not so easy as you might think to get a good shot.

Hey, thanks so much for your response!
I went back to the venue to check it was dried lavender and they have confirmed that is all they allow outside, sadly.
Tbh, I didn't think it would look great in the photo's so I did check with our photographer and he said the same plus the difficulty of getting it out of our hair.We mainly wanted it for the phot. Thanks anyway for your advice, very much appreciated ☺️

Glad that your photographer backed me up on what I said Smiley smile It has to be the most unusual confetti requirement I have ever heard of - They dont "just" happen to sell it do they at the venue.

All I can say is for the best chance of any decent shot is to have loads of it and do not do a tunnel as that will be just some as you walk through - best to gather everyone around and go 1-2-3 THROW and that way you will have more in the air than a tunnel .

Are you allowed to have something other than lavender if you have it inside? Just thinking that if the main reason for the confetti is the photo, you could maybe use rose petals if they would allow it to happen inside.

Alternatively, if you are having the ceremony and reception at different locations, is there the possibility of stopping off between the two to do a confetti shot somewhere else? Or would they allow bubbles instead of confetti?

Or maybe get everyone to throw the lavender in front of you rather than over you? I'm a professional gardener, and you most definitely do NOT want little bits of lavender in your hair or dress because they will drive you crazy until you fish them all out!

I had this question as well! It turns out, from me looking at your profile, that I think we may be getting married at the same venue! 🤍🤍 we’re March 2026! I’ve not met anyone with the same venue yet!

The lavender threw me off, I think tbh we’re going to do it as we walk back up the aisle and then maybe do a different group shot outside. Strange though as I thought it wouldn’t matter what it was either way if it was outside🤣

Haha, no I don't think they happen to sell it.
I know, it's so strange and so specific.Okie dokie, we're going to have a think and see how we feel but that's a good shout with gathering everyone around rather than a tunnel! Thank you ☺️

Yeah I think we can have flower petals or biodegradable confetti inside, but we are hoping the weather will hold out for us to have the ceremony outside. We're having the reception at this venue too.
Do you mean we might be able to do a confetti shot inside?
I haven't checked with them about the bubbles but our photographer mentioned that too!
Yeah I'm not really sure I want to be pulling lavender our my hair and dress all day 😂Thank you!

Aww amazing!! I've not met anyone getting married at this venue either 🤍 we're June 2026! Congrats btw ✨️
Yeah same here, I'm not really sure what to do at the mo as I really don't want the lavender stuck in my hair!
I'm wondering if it's because lavender might be more hidden in the grass! It's shame, flower petals would have been lush to use!

I am surprised to hear that they allow it inside, but its actually easier to clean up inside with a dust pan and brush or hoover. If you go fro bubbles that get a load of the bubble guns - dont bother with those "wedding" bubbles as they are rubbish. Here are a couple of shots - 1 from inside.

I would advise that you double check your plans for this with them, some venues will not allow it unless it is supervised and organised by a firework display company.

I have some tips about sparklers on my Instagram as i have just posted a few firework shots due to it being nov 5 last week, but if i post a link then it will get removed.

Hi, they very much allow sparklers outside and it’s one of their main points when selling the venue. I certainly don’t want fireworks but we are allowed sparklers Smiley smile

Yep indeed, they’re a photographer at that venue near enough every weekend and I’ve worked with them for years in multiple events so trust them entirely. Every single shot they take, confetti, sparklers are perfect x

Brilliant, your photos sound like they are going to be awesome. The sparkler heads up was more aimed at others reading in the future really. Still cant get over the lavender only thing although I have seen some venues say no confetti at all.

Dried lavender is a great choice for outdoor confetti! It’s eco-friendly, fragrant, and creates a beautiful effect in photos. The small purple flowers look delicate and natural in the frame, which is why many couples choose it.
