Confused about banns/giving notice

pinkprincess33, 30 April, 2012 at 11:30 Posted on Planning 0 6

I have just booked my church for 6 July 2013. It is in a different parish to where we will be living (currently in the process of moving!). I know we have to have the banns read in the parish where we will get married and the parish in which we live. Anyone done this and what do you have to do with regards to the parish where you live? Just make an appointment to see the vicar? How far in advance do I/can I do this as trying to be organised! I remember my brother have a problem regarding this, and having to give a certificate or something to say they had been read? Also am I right in thinking that I dint have to give notice at a registry office or anywhere if I am having a church wedding? Just a bit confused about it all, any help gratefully received! Thanks in advance!

    The church where you are getting married will sort out the banns for there. Phone your local parish church about the other banns. Think it cant be before 6 months before, and they have to be able to read them on three sundays before the wedding. You'll have to pay as well, about £20 I think, and you'll need a banns certificate to give to the church where you are getting married. Reminds me I need to sort out ours too!

    Hiya;

    We had to fo this.

    We contacted our local vicar just before Christmas (by e-mail). We get married on the 2 June.

    We then had to go and see her after a service to fill in the relevant forms.

    They then got read on three consecutive Sundays and after the third we got the banns certificate in exchange for a cheque for £34.

    You can probably arrange to see the vicar when you wish but the banns have to be read within three months of the wedding.

    The vicar who is marrying us is happy to arrange for our banns to be read at the other parish, less stress for us!!!

    You don't have to give notice at the registry office as well. We had our final meeting with the vicar at the weekend and we are now all good to go.

    We get married in august, we contacted the vicar at our parish a couple of months ago, they will read out our banns on the 1st 3 sundays in july, the church we are marrying at will read them out on the 1st 3 sundays in june and we pay our parish church £34 for the certificate which u need before you can marry at ur non-parish church.

    The banns are the equivalent of giving notice at the registry office.

    In the church you need to have your banns read on 3 consecutive sundays within 3 months of your wedding date. It costs £34 (or did when I got married last year) and they will give you a certificate to give to the church you are getting married in.

    Just give the local parish church a ring, they will have dealt with it before.
