Considering changing our florist - what would you do?

Hi all,

We booked our florist over 18 months ago, following an initial consultation to discuss ideas and get a quote. Back then they said we'd go through everything properly nearer the time.

Wedding is now 6 weeks away so I got back in touch about booking an appointment to go over everything. They replied saying they're very busy with events so don't have many appointments and it may need to be a phone call, but gave one f2f appointment option which we actually could do, but we'll be quite short on time that day.

I'm left feeling a bit unvalued, like our wedding is 'just another event', that maybe they've taken on too many events (I can see they've been looking for new staff and freelancers to support), and we're now not going to get the personal service we wanted. Our original quote is for over £1,000 of flowers - surely we shouldn't feel bad at wanting a proper face-to-face meeting? I'm also conscious that our flowers could end up being done by a freelancer they've hired under pressure who won't necessarily create the same quality as the rest of their portfolio.

A friend recommended another florist who seems to offer a more personal service, and their wedding portfolio is excellent (probably better than our current florist). They've confirmed they have availability and gave reassurance that we can work together to plan exactly what flowers we want for our day, so I'm trying to decide whether to change supplier. Based on the T&Cs we'd just lose our deposit (£100).

My gut feeling is to switch but I do feel very stressed about the wedding at the moment and wonder if I'm over-reacting...

What would you do??

Thank you!

It's a lot of money to spend with a person/business that aren't making you fell like a valued customer, and it if was me, I'd rather spend that money with someone who has some drive and excitement about the job and participating in your big day, than with someone who couldn't care less.

Go with your gut and switch, £100 loss is nothing in the grand scheme of things when it comes to wedding costs, and if it were me I would be constantly worrying they wont turn up or the flowers wont be right which is additional stress you don't need. the new florist is recommended and that would give me more confidence right from the off and they seem to want your business. good luck

If you're spending that much money, I would accept the loss and go with the new florist. Yes, florists are incredibly busy right now, fitting in all the people who moved weddings from last year, but that doesn't excuse this kind of behaviour - the florist should have made sure they kept enough space clear in the diary to deal with the necessary admin for weddings already booked. in your place, I would be worried that they would either fail to deliver on the day or that the flowers would end up being done by casual labour drafted in, and would not be anything like you had wanted.

I'm a believer in going with your instinct so I'd put the feelers out for a new florist and then cancel stating your reasons why once you have secured someone else.

For the amount of money you deserve a more personal service. If you are considering switching then do it! It's your big day don't settle for second best.
