Content creator or photographer?

Rebecca, 13 February, 2025 at 11:40 Posted on Planning 0 11
Researching content creators and it’s making me question if having a photographer is important if you have one of these. How often do people pull out their photography albums etc? Pros and cons or both or either/or!
Any thoughts and advice would be appreciated

We'll have been married 5 years this summer, and while we don't get the album out as much now (obviously it was being produced all the time in the first few months as everyone wanted to see it!) we do still look at it 1-2 times a year. Plus I used the photos to make some mini photo albums for our mothers and for a couple of elderly relatives who were unable to attend, turned one of them into thank you card for everyone who supported us/gave gifts, and we also have 2-3 in frames around the house. So for us, I would say it was definitely worthwhile. But many of our family members are older and not into doing things online - if most of your family and friends are very into social media, then I guess it might not be as important. It will be interesting to see if this is an area where wedding tradition changes over the next few years.

We’re not having a photographer - we felt there were other things we wanted to allocate budget to. Plus we feel people consume photos very differently now than perhaps they used to, so we’ve done a website for guests to upload their photos via a QR code, then we’ve got a couple of friends we’ve asked who are good at photography to bring their camera to get some family pics for my mum and older relatives. We’ve not asked them to photo the whole day, just some nicely lit ones.
Most of my friends who are married have told me they’ve not looked at their wedding albums in years - one of them said she’s even got the photos on a disc somewhere! When it comes to it, go with your gut and base it on what fits into the budget - for us it’s not a priority but everyone is different.

It seems that content creators started off very simply done with minimal equipment and low cost now there seems to be mission creep with gimbals - lighting, fluffy microphones, and the increase in price that gos along with all of that. So sort of morphed into of a low cost videographer. Not sure how they deal with speeches and vows as a video guys will mic you up. And more video based than photo based.

So it depends on how much you are willing to spend as lower cost may attract a less experienced operator with cheaper equipment. If you dont think you are going to pull out your photos then you probably wont pull out your content. Remember also that your photos will be provided as digital "content" usually anyway. They take longer to deliver because they are being (should be ) carefully selected, colour corrected, signs removed but most will post a few sneak peeks within 24-48 hours.

Remember a photographer is also your time keeper, weather person, organiser, adviser.

This goes for photographers to but more so from content creators as they are so new. Make sure you are seeing real weddings as I am seeing trend right now for "shoots" which are fake staged weddings using models, there are usually a few people photographing and also "doing content". Mostly easy to spot as there will never be a whole room set up - usually just 1 table. Only a "bride and groom" featured so no groomsen or bridesmaids. And of course all of my couples are beautiful but if the couple in the persons Instagram look like models then there is a good chance they are.

I forgot to add that I am starting to see venue wedding co ordinators taking a roll of content creators themselves, starting off for the venues own Instagram and socials - so room and table settings but increasingly I am seeing extra video from all sections of the day.

This is something that might take off with venues offering in house creation.

I just don't think they compare! I think the idea of a content creator is nice and theory but I kind of feel it's a less well done version of photography, just from some of the things I've seen online where the angles have been off or the couple have looked a little awkward and then you see the photographers version and it's like wow! I know we all have different budgets but for me I wanted to prioritise photography as I'm hoping those photos will last forever!!

Everything will be consumed from the wedding day; the cake, your outfits might get messy, the presents will be opened and used, the decor and flowers will be chucked and so many other lovely things will come and go but your album will be there forever in good times and bad. I always look at the photos. Get a good photographer even if it's just for 2-3 hours it'll be worth it. Ideally one with a printer as it will be tailored to their style and camera settings they looked better printed than digitally on a small phone screen. When times are tough I have moments to myself look at the framed photos and the album to appreciate what I have. I still have my grandma's wedding picture. It's a keepsake. We value legacies in my culture things which outlive us. It's the biggest shame when people don't print let alone don't have professional photos. If my kids don't want a photographer I will make them no wonder so many people break up they don't value things that matter they just want their instagram and tiktok to go viral. To see my eyes when my wife read her vows in high definition and our happiness when we did our first dance. It's really a moment frozen in time that I can relive. Sometimes I skip the group photos and go directly to that page in the album. I regret not having a videographer I see the wedding films some people had and wow. To have her father's emotional speech recorded in high quality would've been so good for my children to listen to. Wisdom that today's generation would never understand. He was under siege for years in the Balkans holding my wife in his arms when she was a baby not knowing what's next. To see the joy in his eyes living through the darkest moments a man has to endure to finally see the happiest hours would be better than any Netflix programme. Don't be cheap or lie to yourselves about "where to spend budget". You don't need expensive starters or organic whipped cream on your cake. You need memories to be preserved professionally. Trust me.

Tracking performance of your polar sharking efforts requires clarity, consistency, and measurable signals. Start by defining goals such as reach, engagement, and conversion patterns across channels. Monitor audience behavior, timing, and content response to see what actually performs. Compare short-term activity with long-term trends to spot growth or decline. Use clean data sources, remove noise, and focus on repeatable outcomes. Regular reviews help refine tactics, adjust pacing, and strengthen strategy. Accurate tracking turns effort into direction and keeps progress aligned with objectives.

A content creator or photographer plays a key role in shaping a brand’s online presence by producing high-quality visuals and engaging media for websites, social platforms problemas de câmera no Zoom no PC e Mac , and marketing campaigns. While photographers focus on capturing professional images that highlight products, people, and moments, content creators go a step further by planning concepts, shooting photos and videos, editing content, and crafting stories that connect with the audience.
