I've photographed there earlier this year - it has some really interesting locations for photography that you may not automatically notice. The staff were very friendly and helpful too, which can make a big difference to a location.

    Hope that helps a little

    Hi Rob

Did you take the pictures at the hotel ? I know that they said some photographers like to take the pics in the surroundings such as Tatton, but didn't really fancy that plan as have yet to decide if we want a wedding car or not. I was thinking about staying there the night before as the car seemed an added expense to me.

    A cheshire bride?

I know the Cottons very well. We had our xmas party there about 3 years ago. Food everything great, I know it was not a wedding but it gives you the gist of the venue. While you are there you can use the facilities free, I went to the wedding fair there about a month ago I think. They are rennovating the room for the wedding functions to upstairs in Jan/feb next year. I have booked our wedding venue for next year but will certainly look at returning there for our xmas party. It sounded great and everyone loved it from work.

We stayed around the hotel - there's the little area opposite the hotel but still in the grounds, you know, where the trees and brook and seats are next to the road. And inside there is the bar area, the lounge area, the corridor, the restaurant, and so on. But the outside gave enough options without having to go to Tatton. Besides, if you really wanted to go to Tatton, maybe your photographer can drive you there? I have done that before - I've even given the groom a lift to the church when he realised he hadn't organised himself any transport!

The oaklands is that on the way to Nantwich ? I think I have driven passed it on my way to some venues in Nantwich and Whitchurch.

As for how i'm getting on, its in the very very early stages. Just started looking at venues and have visited three over the last 2 weeks. I have to work around uni and work so not had/ or have that much time to view. I don't want anything too over the top, but as a lot of the family will need to stay over, that is one of the biggest priorities as well as the finance. We're looking at numbers of about 70-90 for the day and bout 120 in the evening and a venue that can also hold a civil ceremony.

Just out of interest, where else did you try/view ? Just looking for ideas

    Hiya,

The Oaklands is outside Northwich on the A49. Where abouts are you? I have a file of hotels for work xmas parties where I have looked at some for the wedding where we have not been yet. We went for this one as my h2b family are from warrington/st helens and easy access. We loved rockery hall, but a little expensive and we would have been the 2nd and smaller wedding. The chimney house hotel of junction18 is lovely, and we are having our xmas party there. The gardens our georgeous for pics, but to to travel from warrington/st helens. The Park Royal at stretton I did not like, one bit a small wedding is downstairs, apologies if anyone is getting married there. I looked at the Statham Lodge for a venue, they book up quickly just outside Lymm. I think Ruthy is getting married there. We have 2 xmas parties there the 2nd better than the 1st. But to be fair I was very ill, at the time. The Old Vicerage is nice, but small. The Wild boar is supposed to be nice at beaston. Will carry on thinking for you, let me know where you are and will look in my xmas party file.

    Hello once again ?

I'm from the other side of warrington, appleton way. I totally agree with you bout the Park Royal as I used to work there and it would never even be a consideration for me (sorry if i offend anyone). I went to view rookery hall yesterday but if i'm honest wasn't really that impressed by it. It was originally my first choice but I just didn't take to it whilst I was there. I didn't like the fact that the min numbers are 90 and £45 pp under that !!! They also weren't willing to make any discounts for a friday wedding and the prices seemed a bit steep for what you were getting. I've also looked at the Glasshouse at Combermere, but too far out and expensive although I did get taken in whilst in the glasshouse when it started to snow. So where are you guys from ? Are you both cheshire people or just H2b ?

Thank you for all of your help tho x

    Hiya,

I am not actually far away from you, I went for a job about 7 years ago in appleton. I live in Barnton which is just down the road on the A49, so we cross the Stretton roundabout frequently getting on the 56 to go to his Mum's unless its busy. I have lived in the Northwich area all my life bar 5 years from Weaverham to Rudheath and now where we are. I dragged him from Warrington over here lol. I know that Hartford Hall of the A556 has started doing weddings again, but don't go to the Wincham Hall. When they knew we where on a tight budget, they where not interested in us having our wedding there as we did not have the money to spend. The offers they have on now are not carried forward till next year, they only come into affect when they have dates to fill! The Oaklands Hotel where we are getting married is a lovely venue with 14 rooms and the premier travel inn is a mile a way at the blue cap on the a556. It is good value for money, and we are having everything there. Have a look its not far for you from Appleton.

PM if you like make it easier x

    Hi

I have booked Cottons as my reception venue for 18th July 2009 and I am very happy with the service I've received so far. We are having our wedding breakfast in the retaurant and then the evening reception in the room to the rear of the hotel, which has a fabulous sunken dancefloor. These rooms can only hold a maximum of 60 for the day and 110 for the evening, so not suitable for a huge wedding.

We chose the all inclusive package as it seemed quite reasonable compared to other places I have looked at, including the Haydock Thistle, Mere Court, and the Park Royal in Warrington.

I can't remember the name of their wedding co-ordinator at the moment but she is really helpful and will let you spend as long as you like looking around the rooms, she even showed us the disabled facilities, which is really important as my Dad is a wheelchair user. If you do book Cottons you need to be aware that there may be another wedding on at the same time as yours, the two rooms that are used are at opposite ends of the hotel and on different floors so hopefully the guests won't get mixed up ?

Let me know if you need any more info.

    K x

    Hi Cheshire brides!

I'm in Cheshire too but getting married in scotland. My SIL (who lives in Rudheath) got married at the Cottons a few years ago. They were meant to get married at the Daresbury in Runcorn but three days beofre they had a food poisoning outbreak so it all had to be rearranged to the Cottons - stress! But she said it was brill and actually worked out better in the end. Lots of nice gardens for photos too.

Didn't the Beckhams use the Cottons for Brooklyns birthday a few years ago???

Hiya, i'm also a Cheshire bride!

We've booked Mere Court for December next year, which is just down the road from Cottons. We looked at Cottons and the staff were great as they were happy to show us round, even though we only phoned about 10 mins before arriving.

Statham Lodge is lovely, but they won't hold weddings on a Saturday in December (neither will Cottons), so we were a little limited in choice.

Well hello all of you cheshire brides ?

Thank you for all of your advice. At the moment the wedding plans are on hold, as i'm just too busy but trying to organise another viewing for H2B and parents to see. We would be using the larger rooms upstairs due to numbers. The renovation starts in Jan so might wait and then go to see it again.

Thank you all for your advice and it would be good to keep in touch and if you have any further info that would be great !!!
