Could someone help - re having a caloscopy?

Clare _ M, 11 November, 2008 at 09:33 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 4

A friend of mine (honestly) has to go to hospital for a caloscopy. She's not really sure what it's all about and neither have I. I'm sure it's something some Hitchers have been through so I wondered if they could tell me in very basic terms. The hospital has said it's Level Sin 2. What the hell does that mean!?

This site is really informative- http://www.colposcopy.org.uk/

Ive lost count of how many of these I've had. I had cin 3 cells- it's the grade of abnormailty, 1 being something to keep and eye on, 2 and 3 requiring colposcopy and possibly treatment. It's nothing to worry about- a little uncomfortable, but nothing major. Hhope she's ok. ?

I've had one too. It's uncomfortable, but nothing to really worry about (in terms of pain, etc.).

Thanks, LouM. She couldn't really understand what her doctor was telling her so she's got herself a little upset about it. I'll pass on the website. Thanks again.

It can be very frightening when it's not properly explained. You can reassure her that its not cancer, just pre-cancerous cells which tehy'll either keep an eye on or treat. Treatment is fine- I've had it done with and without local anaesthetic (in fact, I found the injection into teh cervix to be the only uncomfortable part of teh procedure). A bit of period-like cramping for a few days, light bleeding, but absolutely fine. On each occasion that I've required treatment, they've examined me, decided I need treatment, and done it there and then, so you may want to prepare her for the fact that they may treat her straight away. (my consultant explained that it doesn't mean it's mega-urgent, just that once they've got you in the chair and got the all the camera and bits and bobs in the right place, it makes sense to get on with it!) Afterwards, I usually have a couple of paracetamol, a cup of tea, and go back to work. It's honestly fine. ?

Thanks LouM, I'll pass all the information on. It should help to calm her nerves.

    Thanks Campergirl.
