Crafty types - card weight?

kelly29, 20 February, 2009 at 23:10 Posted on Planning 0 8

I need to be sorting out some ivory card for my table numbers / menus and my seating plan display. In case I need to order it online, what weight (i.e. gsm) should I be looking for?

I'm going to have my table numbers and menus on A5 card and I will be sticking them back to back with double sided tape, as that seems easier than trying to duplex print card.

I'm also going to be needing an A2 sized piece of card for my table plan display, which obviously needs to be strong enough to stand up on it's own on the easel, and carry the weight of all the decoration/rubbish I will be gluedotting to it!

Cheers

Kelly

I have no idea really so this is a pointless post but the paper we use at work is 90 or 100gsm and it is just normal paper so I presume you need much more than that.

See I told you I had no idea!

I got lovely cream card which was thick at The Paper Mill Shop and a whole box was only £4.99.

Jules - Unfortunately I don't have a Hobbycraft anywhere near me (their store locator has a big blank area for East Anglia!) but I'll see if I can get mount board else where. Cheers.

    PG - Thanks anyway!

I use PDA card and craft for my supplies - they send small samples of their cardstock if you ask them. For your table plan, I use artists' canvas rather than mountboard as it looks nicer (IMO) - you could get this from any art shop even whsmith, probably

I've bought all my invite stuff from PDA card and craft. They've been pretty good in delivering stuff (usually takes a couple of days to come) and they were the cheapest place I found (cheaper than hobby craft), might be worth an investigate anyway.

I have bought 280 gsm for my invites. This is a bit thicker than a normal greetings card and you can print on it, but I would go for thicker than this for what you need.

    Hi Kelly

The Range do mount board in a variety of colours, in their art section, used to be right under the stairs bit......

you want 280 - 300 gsm for the other bits really but check your printer will take the card, some printers don't like the thicker stuff

got some ivory hammered card (280g) if thats any use to you you can email me at **********@**********.***

    thanks

If you're sticking card back to back, you could stick them onto another card in a different colour to create a frame, sandwiching the coloured card between them iyswim, like pictured..........

the menu card is on the back of the table number.... just an idea
