Crafty types- help needed with ferrero rocher tree!

5 February, 2012 at 19:23 Posted on Planning 0 18

Bit of a random on here- I've made a ferrero rocher 'tree' for our sweet buffet. It has a 'trunk' that supports the weight fine but I can't think what to put in the pot to secure it. I've included a pic below (sorry it's sideways) and here I've used sand in the pot but it's not stable enough. Any ideas? (Other than concrete!!)

Concrete, the ready made stuff, my cousin used it at her wedding to hold her floral centrepeices in place they were the same as your choc tree she added food colouring in her colours to the mix so it didnt look obviously like concrete then put a layer of moss over the top, just an idea but it shouldnt fall over then, you could even put sand over the top of the concrete to hide instead of moss x

im a dozy cow just re-read my post i meant cement not bleedin concrete hehe

I use plaster of paris in my large topiary tree bases( as kittypuss said)

We have got it from boots before and its really easy to use(can be a bit messy tho lol)

Can i ask how you managed to stick them to the ball? Did you take the cases off and stick directly with a glue gun or toothpicks? Smiley smile

You need to concrete a piece of dowel into the pot, you need it to be heavy for stability, this is a polystyrene ball, bits of tissue glued on and the chocs attached with cocktail sticks. I would really recommend you use polystyrene not oasis ball as the oasis crumbles and its static so clings to stuff and is gritty

You also need a larger or heavier pot as even with cement in the pot you have at the moment will still not be heavy enough, cement is only really sand and water so you would only be increasing the weight by the weight of the water

I think I love you!!!! That is so awesome. I really, really want one! (well, two or three). Would you mind if I steal your idea?

Can I ask what your pole/trunk is made from?

    HI,

We have made these (but with different sweets for the tables) we use air drying plaser, it sets within 20 mins and is rock hard, you can paint it or just cover it with tissue paper. loads of places that sell it in bulk too!!

It looks great, well done, we have got 20 of the things to make!! lol xx
