Creme De La Mer [or other beauty products...]

Minx Sauce, 22 April, 2008 at 10:26 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 25

I'd like to treat myself to some really good makeup and skin products on payday.

I'm planning on getting a Dior Blackout mascara ?, but I'd also like to get some Creme De La Mer moisutriser. Where would be a good place to get this at a decent price?

The distribution rights are tightly controlled, so I think you'll only find it in places like House of Fraser, harrods etc (this was certainly the case when I used to use it, although it may have changed). I bought a small jar from e*bay as an experiment and, sure enough, it was NOT cdlm inside the tub! ? It is lovely stuff though- I can't remember why I stopped using it now. Probably just fancied a change.

Unless of course, anyone can recommend a decent high street moisturiser?

I've used Creme De La Mer years ago and have never been able to get such good results from anything else. But unfortauntely I've never been able to afford CDLM again either ?

What are your best beauty products?

I guess it would depend on your skin type. If you have any dryness then Body Shop's carrot cream works well, it's vitamin A which will put the moisture back.

I should really take my own advice and buy some cause I keep getting a dry patch above my nose.

Thanks LouM. I was thinking that maybe the case about distribution. I'm on the South Coast so can't really justify a trip into London just for moisturiser. ?

I've looked on CDLM website but really can't afford their prices (well, certainly not £90 for 30ml ?).

Anyone recommend a good alternative, that really gets results? I'm finding my face is really dry nowadays, especially my forehead and cheeks.

For super dry skin, Lancome's Nutrix is amazing. Its worked better on excema than some of the prescribed stuff I've been given.

Just to add, Clarins is about £32 a pot, but it does last a good 3 months, so not bad really.

When I'm between pots of CDLM, I buy Skin Drink (£8.50 but brilliant as a night cream) from Lush or Skin's Shangri La (£25).

I also rate Origin's Have A Nice Day / Night-a-mins day and night creams which are about £25 each.

I was feeling a bit skint earlier this month and I bought a Boots No 7 day cream and it's like wiping liquid plastic on my face, I haaaate it?

I either buy CDLM from the airport or from House of Fraser when they're having a points "extravaganza"?

I dont know about prices but when I was going through a cheeky phase of asking all counters for samples I loved La Prairie.

I think the nearest HOF for me is Reading, which is about an hour and a half away ?

    Can you get these online?

HoF in Reading doesn't sell CDLM unfortunately. The Guildford one does though. Or John Lewis on Oxford Street.

You can buy both Origins and Lush online from those links

I also love Lush's Skins Shangri La....you only need to use a tiny amount and it feels fabulous. Well worth the money.

There was something in the papers earlier this week about Waitrose's own cream for babies' bottoms (!) being a really fab moisturiser at a fraction of the price you'd pay for the more 'usual' names. Some of the testers swore it was better than Crema de la Mer.

Disclaimer: I've not tried it so no idea if it's any good!

That was reviwed on GMTV this morning actually. It was on their beauty products section (but work have blocked the GMTV for some unknown reason so I can't find out more ?). They were saying that basically it's just a petroluem jelly and not actually as good as everyone said it was.

Apparently so. It was reviewed somewhere and then they had a Boots P&P fiasco where they couldnt keep up with demand.

Do you know anyone that works in a House of Fraser? My friend works for Bobby Brown and they are owned by Estee Lauder, who also own CDLM. She can get it 50- 70% off. Unfortunately for me, my skin hates it, it makes me spotty. If I was seeing her soon I'd ask her to get some for you but I won't see her for a month or so.

The bay of E may be worth a shot. I know some of the girls do buy from the staff shop to sell on there.

oo Pooch, don't suppose she gets any samples does she. I really fancy trying one of their foundations but not keen on splashing out £30+ quid for something that might not suit my skin. [cheeky icon]

Yeah sure, email me and I'll ask her. She freelances as an MUA so she always has loads of samples.

I bought creme de la mer, although it was lovely on my skin I actually found it was no better than Bobbi Brown Face Hydrating Cream that I had been using previously and the BB stuff was about 1/3 of the price!

I have not tried CDLM (yet) but my faves are:

    Stri Vectin SD eye cream
Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum and Diminish anti ageing cream.
    Skin Doctors Glycolic cream
    Elizabeth Arden Ceramide capsules
    Guerlain Midnight Secret
