Cyprus versus Portugal

Pipkins Pig, 16 April, 2008 at 07:32 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 8

Hi ya all,

Koh samui is now off the horizon and H is considering either going to Portugal or Cyprus.

Which of the two would be nicer in terms of lovely beaches, nice clear sea?

Or is there somewhere nicer to go?

We would be going around early september.

Thanks if you can help.

I have only been to Protaras in Cyprus after it being recommended on here and love it! I've never been to Portugal so can't comment.

Protaras is the area where Aiya Napa (ap?) is but you can avoid it if you want to - we did. Beautiful beaches, clear waters and lot's to see and do. In September it will still be lovely and hot. It's been known to reach 40 in August!

We're going back in August for my friend's wedding.

Hiya I have been to both and while I loved Cyprus - Portugal wins hands down. It is absolutely beautiful. We stayed in the Dom Pedro in Villamoura last September.

If you're wanting it for the sea I would say Cyprus, just based on it being in the Med whereas Portugal is on the Atlantic - it will have had all summer to warm up though! ?

I've been to both and loved both, thing I was most surprised about was how green Portugal is. I expected it to be the same as Spain, it really isn't.

I love Portugal (have never been to cyprus). The algarve is beautiful, clean and the people are friendly.

We stay in the Algarve in Gale near Albufiera and we're getting married there next year <fluff alert>

Villamoura is too 'golfy' for me, lots of women hanging around in groups waiting for their men to finish their round, wearing visors and cackling.

I've been to Portugal many times but I would say that the sea is very cold, especially in September. Maybe it is just me, there is always plenty people in it, but I have never managed to get in ? The beaches are beautiful, people are friendly, no hassle, I love the place and as soon as i won the lottery I will be on a plane to buy a big villa there ?
