Yes, but with one eye closed hiding behind a cushion in the manner of watching a horror film. I feel a little bit ill now just thinking about it. How funny was it when Dawn was trying not to ? because of the smell of BO and deodorant in that guys room though!

Me too....it was a bit weird! Not sure who is exploiting who to be honest. I have to say though that this is the first time I have watched anything wtih Dawn Porter and even though the content and people were a bit strange - I thought she was brilliant!

I really like Dawn Porter, I watch a lot of her stuff. And Anna Richardson. I want them to be my friends.

That BO man that kept giggling made me really shudder and so did the guy who got very stroppy and came on to her. How she keeps a straight face or stops herself from gagging I'll never know.

<shudder> That man's weird high pitched laugh gave me the creeps. And the needy business man - he was sinister.

I watched this with great interest because a good friend (well, we certainly used to be good friends) of mine 'met' his wife via one of these sites. ?

I like Dawn's work, I think her documentaries are insightful, although my fave so far by a mile was Dawn "has a baby" as that really opened my eyes. ?

Dawn "finds a husband" was pure brilliance, when she snuck into the men only spa to hunt down the British male model, he was very peturbed when she broke in to his waxing session and asked him out on a date!

I thought the guys on last nights show were very unstable, the aggressive lover guy really scared me, I wanted Dawn to run away from him, the other guy that cried on his date was clearly not in a very healthy place either! The girls themselves seemed so comfortable with the whole process, I would be mortified if I though my daughter was ever to be exposed to that kind of grooming, where are the families of these women?

Really? The guys on last nights programme kind of struck me (well most of them) as being single for a reason ?

That model guy that she met on 'Dawn gets a Husband' I think she soon realised was all beauty and no brains, he had no conversation whatsoever. I think the first time I watched her programmes was the Dirty Dancing one. I really enjoyed it.

Yes. He is soooo good on paper- great job, handsome, funny, financially stable. However he has massive jealousy issues and is really far up his own arse sometimes (he also has an extremely tiny penis, but thats just cruel). Still, his wife seems (genuinely) to adore him and although we're not very close any more, I'm always very appy for them when I see them together as it seems to work for (both of) them. She has a son from a previous relationship who seems to love it here too.

I saw this, and thought it was crap. the way she tries to spin things from the footage is so transparent and rubbish. like when the weird business guy was talking to the blonde, then she was talking to frank, the religious nut. she said "and there she is, flirting with frank". how did she know they were flirting? she was miles away, it was bollocks. and the way she tried to make out that there was something sinister going on with the guys backgrounds, and asking the woman whose firm it was about it, it was really unfair. plus, she just takes the piss out of all the people she interviews, especially the guys, and because of the difference in UK/US humour, they just didnt get the fact that thats what she was doing.

the guys on the show were definitely odd, especially the ginger haired busines guy. when he started to cry we were in whoop whop territory.

and the lesbian show was terrible.

Why do you think it was unfair to ask the woman about the guys backgrounds?

certainly not unfair to ask what kind of background checks they carried out - but she went beyond that. she fed the viewer a line right before the break which was fully intended to plant a seed that a number (or all) of the guys were dodgy in some way. then after the break, she talked about the one guy having an assault charge, then in her narrative inferred that she didnt believe his explanation.

she put the woman under unfair pressure a well i thought - there is only so much they can do in terms of checks, which they were clearly doing. in a lot of ways, it was far safer than meeting random men in a bar, yed DP gave the viewer the idea that all was not what it seemed. it was unfair, but it wasnt done explicitly.

To be fair, I didn't believe his explanation either. He's a businessman, they gave the impression he made a decent living, surely he would have found a good lawyer to get him off a charge of assault given that he painted the picture he was completely innocent but someone lied to get him the conviction, oh and not forgetting the judge who had three daughters.

Interviewing the guy that used to work for these agencies obviously wanted us to draw the conclusion that it was a dodgy business, a way of getting money from desperate men by offering something that wasn't real.

i didnt see that it was remotely relevant that he had an assault charge. does having a record preculde one from meeting members of the opposite sex? plus, it was disclosed anyway in the check. i really dont see the issue - dp however concentrated on it with the full intention of suggesting to the audience that men who did this were somehow dodgy.

also, a lot of the prgramme concentrated on the weird ginger guy, and the religious nut, and to a lesser degree, the hysterical giggler with the awful chain and baseball cap. i bet they interviewed and talked to loads of them, but it made better car crash tv to concentrate on the obvious oddballs. the whole programme was biased, unfair on the woman who ran it, and also unfair on the guys i thought. they had no idea they were being ridiculed, which is what was going on.

and yes, interviewing the guy from the agencies was exactly designed to add more weight to the pitch of the programme in that the whole ting was iffy, and the men dodgy.

especially the jelly belly guy - giving them the packets with a religious passage attached? wtf?! ?

i did enjoy the bit where the barbara streisand lookalike was talking about sex. when she said "stick your tongue in his anus" and i said "yep, excellent advice" and mrs nick just sighed and shook her head ?

I agree with Jester ackherloi - this one was a disappointment.

But not as crap as that Anna Richardson programme on sex. How rubbish is that? It's laughable.

I agree with this- I thought it was a bit contrived, and the only bit I found amusing were the sex classes, where I was slightly amazed at how unflinchingly compliant the girls were in terms of what could be expected of them sexually.

On the other hand, I found the free love episode (especially the oil ceremony) to be utterly astounding and, with the exception of some pushiness re. the filming of the ceremony, to be on the whole some v good journalism.

I like Anna Richardson, haven't got much of an opinion on the programme though, in places it reminds me of Street Doctor but I can't say i'm keen on the bit where they sit around in a glaring studio.

    I quite fancy a fringe now ?

What i dont like about DP is that she portrays this quirky-happy-go-lucky slightly fluffy image, but yet actually, she s manipulating her interviewees to suit the bias of the programme which they cannot know, and wont know until they see the show.

I watched it. I've watched most of her series. I quite like them but I do find her a bit self centered. I just don't think I'd like her in real life (clearly not relevant).

The creepy trucker bad tooth stinky man was horrible though.

Ok, I put my hands up now and admit that I don't tend to pull these things apart, I watch it and I either like it or I don't and I'm no expert on journalists/journalism but isn't that just something they tend to do? I'm sure Louis Theroux has been guilty of doing the same thing in his programmes although in fairness, the people he tends to interview/follow are more extreme and most of us have already formed a lot of our opinions on them.

I do agree, but she's hardly unique in that. Daisy donovan, louis theroux, crikey, even dermot mughnahan (sp?) use these tactics.

I think her progs are v reminiscent of Louis Theroux actually. I found his stuff quite entertaining on the whole, although obvious polemics. But I don't think they were really trying to be anything else. The only thing with them is they got formulaic.

I do agree that last night's was lazy in comparison to some of the others (didnt see the lesbian one) though. Journalistically I mean.
