Ok, so it's probably an oxymoron, and I'm almost scared to ask this here............ We've never done ready meals but with 2 toddlers, a newborn and a husband working long hours I think I'm going to have to submit............. Ben's 9 weeks old and I'm almost through the casseroles etc that I froze...

Ben's 9 weeks old and I'm almost through the casseroles etc that I froze before he was born.

I've always cooked from scratch, but in the last week that's resulted in us eating at stupid o'clock almost every night - Guineau Fowl and dauphinoise potatoes at 22.50 anyone?.....

Are there any decent ready meals out there that I can add to my shopping and give myself a break some nights?

Have Tesco, Sainsbury's and Waitrose in town...... but it's miles to M&S,

We do eat a lot of "quick prep and cook" stuff, omelettes, tortilla, stir fries, but it still means standing and cooking at the end of a long day.

An average week would see us having:

    1. a roast,
    2. pasta with hm tomato sauce
    3. a stir fry
    4. a chilli,
    5. A casserole/ stew
    6. trout with hollandaise
    7. risotto

And husband does cook too, it wasn't me making dauphinoise at 10.30pm ?

TF - does it have to be hot food?

Not very exciting but my ILs seem to live on a variety of fresh salads (boxes of fresh lettuce, toms, grated cheese, carrots, cold meats, hard boiled eggs) along with some quick home made potato wedges / part baked breads. and pickles.

We have the JO Ministry book and it has quite a few recipes in there that are 20 minute recipes, which includes the prep time. We have had the chicken and leek stroganoff and it is nice and does actually only take 20 minutes. There were a few other recipes in the section but I can't recall them at the moment.

Would it be possible to change what you eat when? i.e. have your main meal at lunchtime and then just have sandwiches / toast in the evening?

I am totally in sympathy with you! We tend to use a lot of the raw chicken breast wrapped in bacon with cheese or stuffing and sausage/gammon with pineapple etc that come in a foil tray. You whip off the lid and throw in the oven. The we microwave those bags of prepared broc/colli/carrots and new potatoes with the butter/herbs. All done in half an hour and no washing up either....well apart from the plates!

We usually find they are 2 trays for £5 and the veg and pots are £1 each per bag. Not the cheapest but cheaper than a ready meal each....and at least i can convince myself its meat and veg!
