dessert to go with paella

AnnaBanana, 12 March, 2009 at 12:37 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 11

Its my dad's birthday tomorrow and im making my kick @ss paella ?

would like to make something quite light for dessert. I have a nice t&t recipe for a passion fruit mousse but i'd like to try something new. Not to creamy or heavy as dad prefers the lighter stuff.

Inspire me hitchers!

TIA!

I was going to suggest crema catalana (creme brulee) to continue the Spanish theme, but does that count as too creamy ?

    I still think it's a light dessert

Thanks P&P - yes he has digestion issues and mum had her gall bladder removed a few years ago so cremy stuff is out pretty much for her. the PF mousse I make is egg whites, condensed milk and juice (and gelatine) so not too bad....i love crema catalana though ?

I d say somethng light and lemony but no pastry or cream. even a simple fruit salad would be good if you can find decent fruit

sophie will be along in a minute and say "posset" as she usually does ?

    Doesnt need to be.

you could make a fool or similar. i d definitely do something with a s harper edge as paella is pretty rich, and all those carbs from the rice etc.

maybe just a realyl light lemon mousse, or something i really like is super thin slices of pineapple sprinkled with mint sugar (you put golden caster in a pestle and mortar and a few mint leaves and bash it all up, then sprinkle over. very simple but really refreshing and delicious.

Banoffee icecream sundae is nice - bashed digestives, sliced banana, warmed dulce de leche, vanilla icecream, grated chocolate

I was just thinking that all my regular pudding ideas are usually extremely rich and creamy, but then realised two aren't.

Strawberry granita always goes down really well, and is really easy to make, though may be a bit summary for march. Or how about Nigella's G&T jelly - that is delicious.

Thanks all - the sundae sounds lovely but a tad on the rich side ? - thanks anyway!

Love the sounds of the pineapple, expect it has to be quite a ripe one? How do you make sorbets? I have an ice cream machine somewhere, is one vital to make it?

    thanks all!

Seeing Nick's suggestion of a fool just reminded me of Rhubarb Fool...? So easy to make and so yummy. Plus, it's forced rhubarb season in the UK so perfect timing.
