Devon Wedding

Rebecca, 7 June, 2023 at 20:52 Posted on Planning 0 6
Hi all ! I am recently engaged and we are looking at venues for our wedding either 2024 or 2025 in Devon / Cornwall. We have found our dream venue but all of the extras are making the day very expensive! It is our dream day but all of our suppliers (photography/videographer/hair/makeup/ food/ wine/ band etc) plus the venue is coming in around £20k. We cannot believe it! We have thought about things we can cut back on but we are struggling with the thought of the whole sum. Does anyone have any advice? Also any Devon / Cornwall brides had similar or have any recommendations for suppliers ? Thank you !

    Hi!

Cornish bride here! We had the same issue! We came across a fantastic catering company called RAD Catering who are based in Cornwall (covering Cornwall and Devon) who do barbecue style sharing platters and are really reasonably priced! They do evening options as well! Not sure what sort of vibe you're going for but I'd highly recommend them!

    Hi!

We’re getting married at Polhawn Fort in Cornwall this Summer. We had exactly the same problem. We found this venue and loved it but compared to others we were looking at, it was very expensive! We thought carefully about our priorities and decided we wanted the beautiful venue and that we could save money elsewhere, for example, we are doing fish and chips with a chip van and a playlist instead of a DJ.

Thank you. A playlist is definitely a good idea!

I'd start from scratch on this - sit down together and think about what is most important to you for your wedding day. There are no 'rules'. Apart from the legal marriage bit, everything else is optional, so prioritise what is most important to you and let go of (or simplify) the rest.

For example, do you need a photographer AND a videographer?

Do you need your makeup and hair professionally done or can you manage one or both yourself?

Catering van/buffet/hog roast instead of sit-down meal?

Can you cut back on flowers? Borrow a friend's car instead of hiring a wedding car? Playlist instead of band? Get your wedding party to wear their own clothes instead of buying/hiring suits and dresses?

Also don't be afraid to ditch the little extras that mount up - signage, menus, guest book, favours etc. Or DIY them if that's what you enjoy.

Hi! I have enquired with RAD and their pricing is really reasonable but I can't see much about them online for wedding catering. Would you mind sharing some images of your food from your day if you have any ? Thank you !
