Did you make a button bouquet?

rubyfirecracker, 25 October, 2012 at 20:30 Posted on Planning 0 6

Hiya

Am looking into materials for my button bouquet and bridesmaids bouquets and need some help!

1 - Did you use a holder? The ones I can find are cheap but trimmed with nasty looking lace. How do I make a bouquet without?

2 - What size holder did you use?

3 - What did your BMs carry? Ideally want to make smaller versions for my two grown up BMs. What size would be suitable for these?

Thanks - flashes appreciated Smiley smile

Made button wands for my flower girls - they were very "open" and not bunched up. Sorry its not a very good photo, I cant find the photos taken on the wedding day.

I have the holders here https://www.3djewellery.co.uk/Cheap-brooches-for-making-bouquets.html and yes the lace is not to everyones taste but what you can do is cut circles of tulle to go on top or a long length of satin ribbon with wire through pulled into a circle on top. I have a tutorial here that I have done for a brooch bouquet and I am in the process of doing the brooch one.

Ahhhh OK, thanks for the advice 3D...however, looked at your link and can't see the holders (just lots of glam brooches)...

Thanks for the tutorial link though... I'm not planning on using brooches (buttons are cheaper and I collect them so have about 7 million already) but your advice is appreciated.

If you do have the holders in stock, please let me know and I will gladly buy Smiley smile

The holders are on the right margin of that page, but maybe your browser isn't showing it, which is interesting so I will move them tonight to the bottom of the page. 7" is £2.99 in white or ivory, the ivory is a dark ivory and £3.99 for 9" only in ivory. I put the link to the tutorial for the brooch bouquet on as well as some of the techniques I used are the same with the handle etc. I removed the top from the Oasis holder and attatched it to the bouquet holder

This one has a bouquet holder on that I got off ebay from the US which was expensive fastened onto a the handle from the Oasis holder, the wires are all inside the handle

Mine wasn't a button bouquet as it had buttons, brooches, fabric flowers and other bits in it, but I did use a holder. I made my own holder out of stiff card and a large plastic cotton reel. I then sewed all my buttons, brooches and fabric flowers onto a felt cover which slid over the card frame and then was sewn in place. I kept sliding it onto the holder as I added the flowers to make sure it looked ok with the shape and scale. Once it was all sewn on the holder I added a few extra flowers to hide any gaps and the join. See below for pics.

I think someone else showed one where they had threaded the buttons onto wires and then gathered them into a huge bunch, and tweaked it to bend the wire to fill all the gaps.

The bouquet holders aren't actually sold with the lace collar - these are sold separately so you don't have to have one if you don't like them. They are used mainly for small bridesmaids' posies although they're very rarely used nowadays to be honest.
