Diet Bores

Chicken, 29 April, 2009 at 14:22 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 32

I want to do this fake letter style but fear Mrs J won't forgive me.

My colleague has, over the last 5 months or so, lost a stone. She looks great. I understand that it's taken her a lot of time and effort to do this and I've encouraged her loads. She's now commenting on everything I eat and giving me a daily run down of every morsel that has passed her lips in the last 24 hours. I no longer care, or encourage her. I want her to fall off the wagon. So there.

It's people like this that push me towards cake, pies and crisps. Only last week someone (okay, my OH) commented on my love of crap food. I have since eaten 6 bakewell tarts in retaliation. And they were bloody good ?

I do that I'll fecking show you what eating's all about thing too. Whilst she looks on smugly. I went for a blooming run at 6.30am so I can eat a slice of ginger cake if I want to. And (I feel mean now but I'm going to say it anyway) I'm smaller than her. Stop fecking preaching.

    Mmm, bakewell tarts.

I think I should become a diet bore. I've lost a stone in about 3 months and not one bugger has noticed except H after me going on about it every time I lost a pound and I got one comment about looking a bit less wobbly when nekid ?

Can you lace her food with oil or grated chocolate to bulk her back up a bit?

Yep, we had a girl like that. It drove us ALL mad with how good she was and how much she was loosing and what calories/fat were in everything. I do know, I'm quite good at dieting when I try and I don't need sodding Weight Watchers to tell me what to eat. She seems to have spectaculalry fallen off the wagon though and surprisingly not said anything much since. Oh and hasn't even commented on my weightloss which is now becoming quite obvious. Maybe I should have gone on and on and on about it but I'm only doing it for myself and don't need to tell everyone. Except for you lot now. ?

Ugh, this does annoy me. Fortunately it doesn't happen where I work. Commenting on what other people are eating is so rude.

Thanks chook, it means a lot ? Though I'm really hungry just now and am so tempted to get a chippy. I hate diet threads of any type it would seem ?

And Clare you are fabulously slim anyway (and I may be receiving some AMcQ shoes int he next few days, eeeep ?)

(or am I being blonde and you're expecing mine? ?)

Chook - any chance you're going to give the marathon another go next year? The cheering squad had such a good time on Sunday we're trying to recruit someone for next year. CS is thinking about it.

A girl I went to school with uses her facebook status to announce her weight loss progress

'missdietbore lost 3lbs this week, woo!'

'missdietbore has only 6lbs to go before she reaches her target weight'

'missdietbore has lost 3 stone and feels great!'

And then posted a picture of herself in a bikini. ?

My SIL (you know the one) has been on the Cambridge Diet and has lost a stone and a half in about a month or so. Everyone keeps telling her how good she looks. I'm waiting for someone to notice i've lost the same amount since Christmas, hopefully in front of her, so that I can smugly say I lost it but it's been gradual since Christmas, that way i'm less likely to put it all back on ?

I admit i'm being b1tchy and mean but in this case i'm entitled - so there ?

Can't you just tell her you've been for a run and can have a piece of cake?

Yes CB, I've entered the ballot but will, hopefully be running one way or another. Come cheer me on - I was very lonely last time!

I did say that Sunny but she just laughed - a laugh that, to my ears, sounds like 'big, fat, cake eating liar'.

But you know you've been for a run and know that the cake wont make a huge amount of difference. She knows that she can't eat ANY cakes because she's a crap dieter!

Will definitely come next year (although it's a long way off). Now I'm a marathon cheering pro (based on having been to one ?) I just need runners.

Chicken, tomorrow come in with a plate of chocolate muffins for the office and leave them in front of her desk. Then if she takes one tut loudly and tell her how many grams of fat in it. Actually wait until she's eaten it then tell her. ?

My SIL is like this and ALWAYS on a diet whether its Slimming World, Atkins... She is slim and always looks the same to me but does not stop about what she has or hasn't eaten that day.

When we are in restaurant she makes a point of loudly ordering a salad without dressing and with extra cucumber before asking me if I am still going for the pizza.

Oh I hate people like this, I used to be surrounded by them and they drove me insane. They were all competative about what they ate and were always commenting on anyone who dared approach the biscuit tin. I had a big problem with food when I was at uni so I tend to steer away from food related conversation.

Sounds like my mum who did WW and gave me a running commentry every time I spoke to her about what she'd eaten (sometimes with a points count), when she'd been 'good' and eaten salads, when she'd been 'naughty' and eaten cakes/ice-cream/chocolate, what excercise she'd done and how much she'd lost at each weigh in. I spent a lot of time gritting my teeth over that one. I suppose I should be really disappointed for her that she's put on one and a half stone of the two and a half stone that she lost. In reality I don't give a hoot.

There are loads of people like this at my work - they're always talking about what they're eating and what they have eaten! I suppose it's working in a female-dominated office - but it really annoys me!

There are also girls in my office who always say things like "well I tried the size 8 trousers but they were so big" which makes me (size 12-14) feel like a real heifer!

See now I worry about being a diet bore...only because people ask me for advice though, on points or stuff. Which is ironic because I so need to lose weight (nervous laugh).

Chicken the image I have of you is a truly nice person that goes running and looks svelte. Kick that cowbag under the desk and enjoy that cake!

The women in my office are like this. They are all quite slim but its constant. How many points in this, have your tried the new WW thingy. it's a running commentary on how much they lose every week. I've been there nearly 6 years and they have all been at WW most of that time. They lose the weight they need, go on holiday put it all back on then start back to slim down for christmas.

I didn't tell anyone at work that I'd lost 2 stone and when i did they were amazed that i managed to do it myself without going to a class. they then started asking how much I had lost each week. I just said I don't weight myself every week.

I've found it's those who aren't on the diet who have become diet bores. I'm constantly being asked about my weight and size and sometimes get rather personal questions. It's like I've become public property.

I worry that I'm a diet bore. I only ever comment on other people's food to say "Yum" or "That smells / looks delicious" I think. I am obsessed with what I eat at the moment though. Ho hum.

(I'm bitter as well because I've lost weight and no one has said anything except Mr W)

We have a couple of these in our office - only there is no way on god's green earth they are a size 8. Or indeed 10 or 12. I don't care what size they are, truly I don't, but they insist on banging on about it (and wearing frocks and trousers that look like someone poured them into them and forgot to say when).

I don't think there is anything wrong with people saying how much they have lost (although usually I only say when asked the day after weigh in), I am bloody proud of loosing the weight I have (51.5 lbs since october) and I do take a pic at every stone lost and put it on facebook.

However I wouldn't comment on other peoples food choices

I'm a bit obssessed with food, dieting, thinking i'm fat etc. I feel like a failure for stopping running and putting on the weight I lost. Everytime she mentions how little she eats (around 10 times a day) or comments on what I eat (in front of everyone, every time I eat) I feel like crap. She's smug and condescending. We get on fine when she's not banging on about it but this is few and far between these days. I was happy for her at first but when it's rammed down your throat all day every bloody day it's bloody boring.

I suffer from diet bores from the other side. I've lost a lot of weight (75lb in 11 months) and whilst I'm pleased and its nice to get the occasional comment I'm fed up with everyone asking how I did it, what I eat what exercise I do etc. I know I was a huge heffer a year ago and looked a mess but everyone going on about how I well I've done actually makes me feel worse for letting myself get into such a state in the first place.

Moaning aside I did post my only weight related face book status last week when I announced I'd just bought size 10 jeans. But I was very chuffed but didn't have the energy to climb to the desired roof top ?
