Dior or Chanel Nail Polish

Clohugs, 9 December, 2008 at 12:22 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 16

I'm a bit of a lurker on here, but noticed that a some of you seem to know your makeup, so wondered if you could give me your advice?

I want to buy a nice navy coloured nail polish as part of my friend's Christams present as I know that she appreciates good quality makeup. Chanel & Dior both sell a navy-ish shade & I wondered which would be better ?

Thanks

As a gift I know that Chanel always goes down well, and if you tell them it's for a gift you should get it in the little black and white bag.

I'm a fan of Chanel. They are very hard wearing and I never use anything else. They last for years as well!

I've got to disagree, I posted a thread about Chanel a while back and most did agree with me that OPI was better than Chanel any day of the week. I had Chanel Rouge Noir bought as a treat from a friend and I really don't like it. It stains my nails even with a base coat, it chips aswell.

I'm a huge fan of OPI and I've recently tried Nails Inc. and like their polish too. If i'm looking for a cheaper alternative then it's Bourjois So Laque but i'd never buy Chanel polish again.

It's strange, as i really don't rate most of the Nails Inc products at all. I find that they chip within hours of putting it on, even if it's applied by a Nails Inc technician. The only thing I do like is the nails Inc Albert Bridge top coat

I love all of my Chanel nail varnishes. I have 1 or 2 Dior ones, but love all the Chanel colours. They're very classic.

Chanel always comes off on paper in "rouge noir" streaks.

    haven't tried Dior

That sounds like an off batch. I've been using Rouge Noir for about 8 years (since it came out so may even be longer) and it's never stained my nails and it doesn't chip. I don't use a base or top coat and have to paint my toes about every two weeks. In fact it grows off rather than chips. You should take it back and get it replaced.

Zooneycat I have the Nails Inc colour like Rouge Noir, a very deep burgundy and I found it went on very well, it's extremely difficult getting that sort of colour to go on well, it takes some work. It didn't chip either and dried quite quickly which is good for me cause I can't keep still for more than five minutes. Mind you, it depends how long you want it to last. I put it on on the Friday morning and took it off on the Sunday and my hands are always busy oo er!

Pooch, when I posted about it on here several people agreed with me so I don't think it was an off batch.

Sorry for the late reply - I was in a meeting.

Thanks for your advice everyone and for the link Sunset.

I'll look at OPI although I was hoping to get it with Boots Points so that might be a bit scuppered now as there's no point in getting it if it chips/stains her nails.... I'd looked at Nails Inc ( as she has had a few Nails Inc manicures) but the packaging just wasn't nearly as nice!!

The packaging won't be up to much with OPI either. I'm sure she'll love the Chanel varnish and they do package it up very prettily, i'm just saying that as a product itself I don't think it's as good as a lot make it out to be and there are better products out there.

I've tired Chanel. OPI and NailsInc and none compare to cheap ol' Bourjois.

Probably not as pretty a gift, but I'm a big fan of Essie - definitely the best nail polishes I've ever used.

Thanks Flailing Wildly - I'll take a look at Essie too - I've not heard of them before. Still not decided which to go for... maybe the one that's the nicest shade of navy!

It's not the same formula though is it.

IMHO Chanel looks fab as a gift, but gives nowhere near as tough a finish as OPI. I have a fab navy of theirs called 'Russian Navy' - you should be able to get in on the Bay of E fairly cheaply
