Divorced parents causing drama

HotDiggityDamn83, 25 June, 2021 at 22:38 Posted on Planning 0 9
Seriously. Don’t have kids if you’re going to get divorced. It makes things awkward for the kids and it’s not their fault.

Bride: dad brought me up alone and doesn’t want my mum there. Fair enough. He raised me alone and her husband and their kid are arseholes.
Groom: mum will be gutted if not on top table with new partner. Dad will be gutted if not on top table with new partner. Suggested brother and SIL on top table instead. Both parents fuming.
Groom’s sis livid at the thought no parents for her bro on top table.
Suggested Sweetheart table with bride and groom only. Apparently that’s also unacceptable .. wtf to do?!

    We had these problems too.
Grooms dad refused to sit on head table unless his new wife and kids could too! He said “I sit with my family or don’t come!” Errrr the Groom is your family?! 🙄
Grooms mum said she would sit on the head table but not if the grooms father was sitting there.
Brides parents will sit on the head table but don’t want to be next to each other.
I turned into bridezilla and told them all it was our wedding day and I what I want goes! They’ve all had their days so let me have mine. It’s only for a few hours and if they can’t suck it up for those few hours then don’t expect to be involved at all. Our head table is now brides parents (1 either end), the grooms mum and the best man. The grooms father is sat with his family but is no longer part of the wedding party and I may of put him on a table near the back 😏
It’s your day lovely and you can have who you want. If they get pissed off/ don’t want to then say fine but don’t let it stress you. I hope you have a lush day ❤️

    I love your approach Emma!

This has all stemmed from COVID and the venue have said only 6 max on top table.

It's so awkward, not looking forward to planning the rest of the tables but you're right, I'll try not to get stressed! Smiley smile

Could you have siblings only on the table, I know it won’t please your SIL with the no parents but least he has his sister there? Though if there’s more than 1 sibling it could get awkward.
Other way is best man and chief bridesmaid and their partners. Then there’s no family.
Or you could be really cheeky and give them all a raffle ticket and then the winning numbers get to sit on the head table 😝
I haven’t actually double checked with my venue if I’m still allowed 8 per table with all the restrictions. If I have to lower it to 6 I think I’m just gunna make it a free for all and if people get funny then they should of got to a seat faster 🤣

Ugh, wedding politics is hard 😫😅
Do what you want to do. If that's a sweetheart table because they're all being toddlers about it then so be it. Xx

Reading through it I was thinking a sweetheart table all along -no top table. Another thing people do is not to use numbers on tables and to use names instead.

But just for reference you no longer have to be restricted to 6 per table.

On the off chance that some people are not sure what a sweet heart table is - here is one.

Thanks Bill - that looks great. Unfortunately I'm in Wales where restrictions are still 6 max per table. Think we will go with this option, it's rather cute!

I think it'll have to be, shame as I wanted to be sat next to my Dad.

Thanks for your reply! Smiley smile

Ah yes - sorry. Well corrected and pointed out, I do forget sometimes to make sure I add the England caveat when talking about restrictions.

At the end of the day its only for 2 hours and you could position your Dads table and his seat nearest to where you will be sitting.
